Hi Guys

I have just upgraded to Sky Q and want to use my old Sky+ HD hard drive as external hard drive on my laptop, my question is what do I need to connect the hard drive to the laptop the Hard Drive is a Seagate 3.5 Video 500GB but im not sure on how to connect to the laptop.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in Advance.

I ha heard that Virgin/TiVo disks can't it shouldn't be used due to odd formatting and constant use.
Not sure if Sky format in an odd way but their disks do get hammered.
However you could remove the disk (if you can get to it! ) connect it up to a spare sata port and power then see if your bios can see it the if Disk Manager can reformat it.
I wouldn't rely on it though.
Andi.

Take the drive out of the sky box housing and see if it's a 2.5 or 3.5 inch version then get a caddy for it.

Something like this will do

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £78.88 (includes shipping: £9.90)

The IcyBox doesn't state if it comes with a power cable or not which you will require if you wish to use 3.5" HHDs in it so might be worth checking first.

Just found this that should work and is quite cheap

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £20.72 (includes shipping: £8.70)

The 3.5" version is tricky as you'll most likely need to provide external power so the docking station could be a good way to go.

A quick search for 2.5 and 3.5 hard drive caddy should introduce you to the kind of thing you'll need to use though.
