Sky HD?

And the standard channels look pap, they had all the music channels on and I could barely believe how bad the picture quality was.

that's more likely a poor TV

I have watched 720p versions of PB on my Panasonic th42px60 and it was little better than normal

Well i have season 2 in 720p x264 (about 2gb an ep) and the quality absolutely trounces the dvd set. Thats on my piddly 26" LCD.

I watch a lot of HD content now, i actually sat down to watch Casino Royale on DVD the other day but turned it off after about 10 minutes because the quality annoyed me so much! I can see the quality difference miles off, if i had the money for Sky HD i would be all over it. Although i do think the channel selection is pretty poor atm, but footy would probably be enough for me!

I got a Blu-Ray version of Casino Royale in the post this morning. I watched it early tonight and just couldn't get over how good the quality was.

I don't even bother watching films on Sky anymore unless they're in HD. Like you said, SD becomes so inferior it's just annoying.

Sky HD on a sammy 50" plasma is certainly a lot better than SD. so much so that it nearly becomes painful to watch SD contents in all its grainy glory.

Sky HD is set to 1080i on mine.

my brother has just had it, picture quality is marginally better then his old Sky+ box but nothing huge, certainly not worth paying £10 a month extra for
Don't know what you're watching then, on a true HD source (not Sky One for example) the picture is a million miles superior. BBC's own HD representations of Hannible for example were nothing short of stunning as was there world cup footage last year.

Had it now for a year and for me, there aren't enough channels, but HD is the way things are going. I'd recommend it if you are into movies or sports though as Sky run all their televised matches in HD and now have 2 HD movie channels.

Looking at the HD in the shops, sky sports, I don't think it's much better than our CRT TV.

There are no HD music channels.

its not broadcast in 1080i afaik, I don't even think it is as good as 720p

I think a lot is 540p

All HD content on Sky is broadcast in 1080i.

On the auto setting the box will output HD at 1080i and SD at 576p via HDMI.

I'm still not sure, if there was twice as many channels and more that I would definitley watch that were broadcast in HD then I would definitley go for it, though I am a fan of things on sky one like 24 and lost, I already download these in 720p, and they do look amazing...

It would be on a 32" LCD btw...

I think I might wait until there are a few more channels available, even then though, its a question of what programmes on it are HD...

One odd thing is the choice of programming on BBC HD. I still recall being stunned when instead of showing the last series of Top Gear in HD they decided to instead show Last of the Summer Wine in HD...

Personally I am not sure how many of your typical Last of the Summer Wine viewers are going to have a HD set...

I have had it for a year and it is the best decision I have made home entertainment wise. Content is still a little slow but I find there is always something to watch and now with anytime as well its just getting better and better (for example terminator is on there this morn!!!) I still dont find the skyoneHD channel picture acceptable 24 is very pixelated and lost just doesnt look as good as other sources but thats just bandwidth problems.

BBCHD is by far the best, and with nights like last night (top gear + 2xheroes) it makes it worth while. Now if only they could get Top gear HD for a whole series and also doctor who, then I would be very happy indeed.

I hope the FX-HD channel comes soon... Dexter HD :D

I like my HD box and I think its well worth the cost.

BBC HD - by far the best quality output, Planet earth looks amazing, top gear special looked great, and for some reason even Heros looked better than any SkyOneHD program. Their football coverage is "variable" but it looks good still just sometimes skys looks better. Biggest problem is there isnt enough of it but i usually use it as a demo for the unbelievers. They have even started showing the odd film which is a plus.

SkyOneHD - ok so allot of it isnt actually HD, and allot of it is repeated 50 times a week. BUT 24, Lost (if you can still stand it), Nip/tuck, law & order even some of the newer malcom in the middle episodes. lets be honest they have some of the best mass market american tv shows and if that floats your boat you cant go wrong.

SKY Sports 1&2 HD - Football looks great, so did some of the golf and rugby. I turned it off over the summer to have the movies instead because i wasnt that bothered with copa d'america and i hate cricket. reminds me i need to switch it back on before the charity sheild.

Sky Movies HD 1&2 - again the quality really shows here, some of the older films really suprise (the fly, independace day and ghostbusters 2 all looked really good). Only wish there was more as with all the movies channels they show the same films over and over.

SkyArtsHD - Id like to pretend im all posh and watch this but im not, opera dont float my boat. but that said ive seen a couple of things on here that ive watched in flicking.

DiscoveryHD/NAT GeographicHD/HistoryHD - All the programs look amazing HD really works well for documentarys that show you parts of the world you will never see. The footage from the ISS was truely jaw dropping. As i like this kinda TV its often one of my first points of call if im "flicking" and there is often something worth watching. Again repeats can be annoying but this is par for the course on any sky channel.

Rumoured new channels include: MTV HD, FX HD, LIVING HD, Disney Channel HD but thats been said for some time and nothing has been confirmed.

Overall I think its worth the £10 i really do, the box if you can get it for £150 then yes deffo, I paid full price and my only complaint i like my TV its cheaper now than when i paid for it, but such is life. As with all the sky/freeview channels there is allot of repeats but the gems are worth looking for.

will have to borrow by brother's HD bpx and try it on my TV

the cost of the box isn;t the issue but the 10 quid a month is stupid, like all these things though I think it is inevitable that this extra cost we be dropped at some point

Thats whats putting us off, moving soon and have had a big HD tv for years but never actually used it for HD tv stuff other than the 360. Toying with the idea of getting Sky HD box in when i move but i just dont know if it warrants the £10 a month extra, or if im better of just sticking with Sky+ and waiting for more HD channels as at the moment i dont know if i would watch that much asie from maybe some golf and sky one.

Unforunately you won't see Doctor Who in HD for a while since it's all done in SD because of all the SFX in each episode, unlike Torchwood which has few effects so is done in HD. :)

It should still look the same or atleast better than a standard tv?

I doubt it was the TV either, since they had about 30 showing them. The picture was blurry and very pixelated, I've seen this in a lot of the shops.

Slightly off topic but if you're moving house can you order Sky, BT line etc. before you're there and arrange for the installation asap after you've moved in?
Or do you have to wait until contracts have changed hands and put up with a few weeks without entertainment?
