I have Sky+ and I have recorded many things that I want to keep such as the Champions League Final etc. The box has a USB connector on it (male) so I was wondering if there was any way that I could transfer this stuff to my PC?

USB doesn't have a use at present (it is powered on some boxes, so it might be able to charge some random devices).

Only hope is a Video Capture card.

IIRC all the stuff on your Sky+ HD is encrypted so you would need some sort of scart to capture card input cable with the relevant decryption chip in the cable.

I think they use videoguard encryption.

I've transferred stuff from Sky+ to a DVD recorder in the past, would that not be encrypted too?

Easy to rip from a DVD though :p

Depends what channel it was taped on I reckon.

If you taped something on Sports/Movies I would imagine that it would be encrypted whereas something on a free to view channel like BBC/ITV wouldnt.

The decryption is done by the Sky card. If you can watch it on a TV then you can record it. The best method (excluding a special Sky+ with SDI) is an RGBs capture card called a Sweetspot. The second best is an s-video capture card. The s-video cards are very cheap and the Sky+ is one of the few STB's with a working s-video output. Record as mpeg and reencode them to DIVX.
