Was just searching through movies, and sky movies 311 and 312 are now called Sky Mov HD.

I dont know if anyone has noticed but ive seen a visible improvement in the last couple of days (since the update) on picture quality on movies, they have been miles better than before, i wonder if they have upped the bitrate on them.

lol, I thought you wanted a definition of the phrase "sky high" :D

Well if you did, here you go:

sky-high (skh)
adv.
To a very high level: The garbage was piled sky-high.
In a lavish or enthusiastic manner: The critics praised the play sky-high.
In pieces or to pieces; apart: Sappers blew the bridge sky-high.

adj.
High up in the air: sky-high trees.
Exorbitantly high in cost or value: sky-high prices; sky-high stocks.

What about the happy pill induced sky high, why isn't that there? :(

wont you have to pay for this ? i would assume, i remember seeing a new box.

The box:

You'll need a new set top box to receive HDTV from Sky, which has the following inputs/outputs:-

2 x LNB Inputs - Regular F-types
Phone Line - RJ11 by the looks
** RS-232 - 9 pin d-type **
Aerial in - Belling Socket
RF1 out - Belling plug
RF2 out (with 9V DC) Belling plug
Optical audio - Toslink
** USB - standard host (A-type?) **
Component - 3 x RCA Phono
Analogue audio - 2 x RCA Phono
S-video - 4 pin mini din
VCR SCART socket
TV SCART socket
HDMI
Ethernet - RJ45
SATA

It'll probably cost £300+ and there will probably be another £10 to go on the subscription

According to a few posts over at AVForums there new STB will cost £499 and you'll have to pay another £20-25 on top per month for the service! If this is true they are having a laugh!

Telewest are releasing it soon too, £10 per month extra and you get the STB for free (Maybe a £50 installation fee tho) STB has a 160GB HDD too.

The manager from a local store i know well has indicated to me that what hes expecting will be £399 and the same cost monthly as Sky + or a multiroom package currently is.

I think the packages are already expensive enough. For instance if the box was £199 but £50+ a month for the full package most people wouldnt even consider it. Do remember the HD service is making the most of Sport and Movies so its current subscribers with lower cost packages they have to convince into (a) investing in the machine when buying or already owning a HDTV and (b) are willing to pay a little more in thier monthly fees.

Skys uptake from normal viewers to Sky+ owners still is low, they will also want to make the most of having a nationwide HDTV service all to themselves before HD disc formats get launched.

Lets face it buying a HDTV and having Sky HD to show it off on go hand and hand.

Doesn't this box basicaly have all the functions of the Sky+ box (with a Mahoosive Hard Drive for recording the HD Feed) Plus HD reception and one maby 2 HDMI sockets???...

So it'll be just the 1x £10/month charge (plus £300 for the box of corse!!) unless you have Movies/Sport!... which was the same for Sky+ when we first got it!!

We're coming back to sky this weekend (been in rented for 6 months!... now Bought our own home!... we've got all the hardware, Sky & Sky+ Box's & Dish etc.., so its just a phonecall no installation needed!!) but We're gonna wait a bit till a few more Programs/Channels are HD and the Box's are at least v2...

You realise the V2/V3 sky+ box is much worse than the V1

With the sub i would be amazed if its the same, filming in HD is vastly more expensive - not just a little millions and millions has to be invested in camera and field equipment. Sky need to make this back so im sure there will be a price hike on the sub.

Remember Sky+ was £399 on launch with £10 per month on top, i suspect the same at very least, maybe even £499 for the box.

If they charge £499 for the box they won't sell any.

LOL

Not on these forums where everyone buys the cheapest HD screen regardless of quality.

I will buy one at £499, a good dvd player will set you back more.

Home cinema boys will all buy them at 500 and probably more.

Sky dont want to sell them to the mass market at launch, get it out to the early adopters at a premium price, iron out the bugs and then in a years time reduce it so the Sammy owners can justify getting one.

Sky+ launched at £399 and it didnt hold back initial sales, if your not willing to dish out 500 sky dont care - plenty are and when you buy your budget price box all the tech will be cheaper and sky will make money on the boxes and subs.

Well al let you know how it is when we get our box, mum works for sky so we get the box for more than half price and the package is free.

Internal memos state they should be getting it 2 weeks before the public :)

Ok then, Sky won't sell many compared to their subscriber base at that price. Very few people would spend more than that on a DVD player, and I doubt you have to spend more than that on a good DVD player, unless you have a skewed idea of what good is.

Just because people who can apparantly hear the difference in sound quality by changing the power lead on their hi-fi will buy it, doesn't mean it will sell well.

Ive already said what i think but it doesnt make sense to overprice the system nor the packages. As a business plan you get your userbase installed then start charging them extra after a period of time not just whack on another £15 or whatever from the offset.

Do remember you have the Movie package that will come with the Sports in HD but the "BOX Office Channels" (Sky says will show 10x HD Movies a Week via Box Office) wont these "Box Office Movies" be seperate PPV billing? I presume they will get quite a bit of revenue from this and concerts etc

@ Shimmyhill
A Good HD-DVD player will be £499 and offer better picture quality to boot.
Having seen 16MBs CSI/Lost/Love Monkey in HDTV from USA satellite i can tell you now that SKY-HD like any other HDTV service will still have MPEG visible compression.

Over £399 im not at all interested dont know about anyone else.
