trying to install a sky router for a friend but having problems.....was amazed to find the sky log in is tied to the router....so have to use supplied netgear...looking at the settings when logging onto the router there seems to way to manually input the user name and password....so forced to use their software...which simply gets to the point where it checks the connection and says your not quite there yet..and that's it..cant get past the connection check which it fails..the lights are all green on the router and logging into the router shows its synced to the exchange....at no point did the software ask for the long in settings...any ideas on this other than calling there helpline?...

You dont needs the software at all, its just a browser app and some basic tcpip and the mcafee.

Plug the router in via ethernet and you should be sorted.
if you need to try access the router its just 192.168.0.1 admin and sky

your username and pass are built into the firmware with no way of changing it, if you google for how to access these details you will find a method of gaining these to use other routers, however this will break the tcs.

if your still stuck post back, but basicly end the cd setup and try the web.

yeah that was the first thing i did......but they send you a user name and password...where do you enter that?....the router is synced but not logging on...

It is for the Sky Portal so you can access your email iirc. :)

Do you have the green "i" light lit up on your router?

if your in sync do you have an ip address in the router status page? if not
goto bottom of the page click connection status click disconect then run sky test.

post back if it gives you an error code

thats means its not getting an ip address, if you have hard reset the box with the ping at the back and it still doesnt get an ip it could possibly a be a stale session and usualy switching the box off for just more than 27 mins does the trick leave it for 35 to be on safe side, if it stills fails to get an ip they may have to kill the session at the exchange and you would need to call support for that.

yeah rebooted twice and its been doing over 2 days...spoke to useless tech or just escalate to level 3 and i sit wait for a call back...great!

hum..you seem sure its an exchange problem...i was thinking it was a router problem not being to obtain the ip......i was going to look at the hack to get the username and password and try another router....

You can give it a bash but I have found in quite a few of these cases it is indeed either the router or the exchange so checking your router could work
just remember that it will be breaking the T&C of the service so proceed at your own risk :)

Cant go into to much details but most can be fixed exchange side.
