Hi

Currently with TalkTalk LLU and have had a good service for the past 18 months but contract time is up.

Sky have LLU'd my exchange and im tempted by this tripple offer (currently have sky HD so would bring costs down to have all 3 with this tripple offer they have)

Whats the LLU service like? Bandwidth capping? Im on 80GB limit a month atm and generally hit 30-40gb.

service speed is important, TT have been pritty contact with me able to max my download when i needed to.

thanks

I've one very short experience of Sky LLU and it was a couple of years ago to be fair and it could have been an isolated incident.

I was a Be* customer syncing at 16/17mbps and generally happy but Sky was cheaper and after being nagged by the other half I migrated across and synced at 7mbps. Despite numerous calls Sky insisted this was all the line would support and weren't prepared to listen to reason.

I cancelled under the cooling off period, migrated back to Be* and synced back at 16/17mbps for the next two years.

Well I have been with Sky LLU for a year now, no complaints at all. There doesn't seem to be any limit on downloads. I use my connection pretty heavily and never heard anything from them.

My connection is always at my maximum line speed and stable.

You do have to use Sky's router. Mine is a re-branded Netgear so it's not a problem. There are ways to extract your username and password from the Sky router to use other routers, but I believe it's in Sky's T&C's that they can cancel your account for it. Although from what I read on forums it's never actually happened.

I would highly recommend them.

I've had sky for over 2 years. Never had a problem with the, however the Sagem router they provided me with sucks major. They cap my line around 7pm till I think the early morning, from 3MB to around 1.5mb.

Download/Gaming they're fine, never had any problems.

i only have sky or talktalk as LLU options here, so its one of those.

Whats CS like? Are you able to change between fast path/interleaved etc or do you have to ring somewhere and speak to someone who knows nothing about these terms?

I am tempted, my line rental/calls/broadband comes to around £25 a month, then sky on top of that.

From what i can see, i can get telephone/tv/internet for £20 + 7.50 for unlimited+10 for sky hd.

so around £40 for all instead of £55-65 or so.

You sure you're not one their connect package? There's no capping on the LLU (well certainly not on the unlimited package anway)

I've been with them since the beginning and got no complaints. No plans to change any time soon.

Current package - Sky Broadband Unlimited. That's the one I'm on.

You shouldn't be getting any kind of capping/throttling then.

This is what I get 24/7

Very pleased with the service, Customer services have been ok in the 2 times I have had to ring them, Once to get them to raise the speed my line can handle & again to get fast path enabled. Both times it was all done & dusted within 5 minutes.

Well I do, I don't know why? Should I ring and ask them why? I get around 3MB during the day. And this from 7pm.

I am far from my exchange about 2.31km, according to SamKnows.

Yeah I definitely would get on the phone to them. It shouldn't do that no matter what the time, Unless your exchange is really congested? That ping is , When you ring ask them to recheck your line/how fast you can get & also ask why your speed almost halfs from 7pm onwards.

You are approximately 1.16km from the exchange. Note that this is the straight line distance - the actual cable length will be longer!

I tried the test in both IE9 and Chrome Beta and that's the ping. Which is strange, as it never used to be that high in IE, but in Chrome it would.

EDIT: Checked my account on Sky. And this is what it says;

Download Speed
Your connection has been set to a download speed of up to
0.8Mb (768Kb)
Upload Speed
Your connection has been set to an upload speed of up to
0.8Mb (800Kb)

Something seems wrong here.

My main browser is Chrome Beta 7.0.536.2, Never had that problem myself. Are you using wireless?

Also have you tried plugging your router into the test socket which is behind the master BT socket & seeing how it goes from there? I know people on here have had some success from doing that in the past.

Check this post to see how to access the test socket: http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showpost.php?p=17520600&postcount=2

Edit: something does seem wrong I'd suggest ringing them & getting them to run tests on your line whenever you get the chance to :)

Another edit: type http://192.168.0.1/ into your browser, user/pass is usually admin/sky when the page loads go to "show statistics" & paste them here.

Just a bit of an Update.

Been reading some threads on the skyuser forum, turns out I might be on the Sky Connect and not on LLU. Will ring them and ask them to move me onto that if a slot is available. Thanks for your input Mattey.

Very welcome, I thought it may be connect as the throttling only happens on that because it is BT wholesale & not running on Skys own equipment, Hopefully you will have LLU enabled on your exchange as it is much better than connect :)
