Sky MultiRoom - Worth the Money?

I'm thinking of getting multiroom, to save on all the cables and dodgy aerial connections, and so I can watch sport etc in the other room.

Is it really worth the extra £10 per month?

tbh the dodgy cables and stuff can work very well when setup

however we have Sky + and quite regularly have 2 things recording downstairs, so the ability to bang some MTV on or whatever upstairs without upsetting the recordings is priceless.

I got my parents to get multiroom then mooched the Sky+ box for £10 a month and took it with me to my new house.

All the channels for £10

Complete waste of money.

But then i would say that as i live on my own :p

Seriously, this is not a question that anyone can answer for you, if you deem it to be worth the money then it is.

How long ago did you do this?

Sky will start billing your parents 2 full subscription rates soon as the boxes are not connected to the same phone. Unless you have some groovy internet setup going?

Well, luckily I live on the same family estate so it's technically the same address ;)

Oh, and I rang sky and mentioned that I have a second phone line which is easier to connect to and they didn't have a problem with me doing this (obviously they didn't know it's on a different dish) as it's registered on the same address

EDIT: Been doing this for a good year with no problems

You would appear to be lucky as Sky require both boxes to be connected to the same phone line when using multiroom to ensure that both boxes are in the same house.

He is right, you can have them split over two phone lines, as long as the lines are registered to the same address.

Yup, I was dubious about doing it at first but I rang a nice chap at Sky and asked him and he said it was fine so long as they're registered at the same address

I also did a forced update at the new address as it'd be sitting in the cupboard unused for 8 months

Slightly OT, but has anyone noticed how good sky CS is? I had a problem with my new multiroom/sky+ box, phoned them up, and from the time i picked up the phone to the time i put it down must have been...5minutes? I wasn't even put on hold, and they fixed the problem there and then on the phone. Very impressive.

You were very lucky!! After spending a couple of hours over the last week talking to them I resorted to emailing James Murdoch yesterday. Within 3 hours they'd phoned me back and arranged an engineer to come this Sunday to sort me out.

Anyway, back on topic I'd say it was worth it. I can watch footy anytime and kick the Mrs upstairs to watch her programmes on the small telly (when she's not in the kitchen that is :))

I noticed that I got through quickly, unfortunately that's where the simularity ends.

I enquired about the cost of HD on top of my EVERY-CHANNEL-Sky+ & Multiroom package and the guy went off on one trying to convince me to part with £300 and an extra £10 a month.

I explained that I couldn't justify the cost of an extra £10 a month just to have HD (as i'm paying multiroom) and he started saying something about having a HD tv and not having SkyHD was like having a Ferrari with a Lada engine.

In the end I said, "so how does having a fast car save me money on my SkyHD enquiry" and he got pretty shirty!.. that's where I hung up.

Actually they only require the second box to be connected, not the first.

wrong

i had snotty letters when i didnt connect my 2nd one up

several in fact, as our house didnt have a phone socket upstairs, so we ran a cable outside and wired it into the plug we used to split the phone / sky + box into two

but it didnt work, and we got several letters, it was only when we got one telling us we going to get charged 2 subscriptions that we complained and got the engineer to re do it.

Not wrong at all, unless the engineer did something with the cards, or one of the many other issues that can cause the system to fail and since at the moment I spend my days sitting in Sky's Marketing Operations in Osterley designing service processes and decision logic for them I'd take my knowledge over yours.

your knowledge still doesnt explain the letters i had demanding i connect my 2nd box up

repeated letters at that. so its not a 1 off. Last time i looked, i didnt imagine 3 letters about the issue, the 3rd one of which telling me if i didnt connect the 2nd box up within 30 days i'd be charged for 2 subscriptions

sorry, you could be rupert murdoch for all i care, but it doesnt explain the letters i got.
