Sky+ on the PC

Hi,

I am wanting to put Sky+ on my PC. I currently have a Distribution Amp connected to my Sky+ box, and then I have coax going all round the house distributing the Sky+ signal to other rooms. On the other TV's, I just have to search the analogue signal and the Sky+ comes through.

Now, I want to be able to do this with my PC. If I understand, as the Distribution Amp is the aerial, I just need to put a lead from the Distribution Amp to the PC tuner, and then search in the same way?

Which comes to my question - I am needing an External USB tuner. Does it have to be analogue? I'm assuming if its just digital, it won't pick up the Sky signal as I cannot search? (By the way, my pc is in the same room as my Sky+ box, so changing channel is no problem - this way I just need the picture to appear on the PC).

I am unsure as to what I need. An analogue tuner, a digital tuner, a digital analogue tuner, or none of the above.

Please let me know if I have got this correct. Any help would be apprecaited.

If watching Sky on the PC is the only thing you want to do, then you need an analogue tuner. You're quite correct that a digital (DVB-T) tuner wouldn't be able to find your Sky signal.

If you want to control it, you'll need one of those magic eye things too (i'm assuming you already use them around the house).

Excellent, that's fantastic. Thanks for your replies guys.

I can't seem to find many analogue only tv tuners, most now are digital and analogue, which I guess is fine by me. Can you recommend any good ones?

It has to be external, as I haven't enough slots in my PC. I don't really want to spend over £40 on one, but most I am seeing are over that. I'm guessing software doesn't matter, as I'll be using Media Centre. Any suggestions?

I'm interested in this thread as I want to do the same with cable, except I want to be able to change channels from upstairs. Can this be done?

Not entireluy correct, if you get a PCI DVB-S card with a CAM slot, and a Dragon/Predator CAM the Sky card will work in that and open the channels
It is correct - as the only thing the OP has is a Sky feed via an RF Coax cable. A DVB-S card isn't going to help much with that.

You just need a remote extender, loads of models out there from IrDA to Wi-Fi type devices.
