I have Sky+ at the minute and use it all the time to record programs etc. I love the ease of use and the way you can set series links etc.

I already have broadband and telephone with Virgin media and I have been offered a really good deal for their V+ package which gives me more features for an overall lower monthly bill than I'm paying using Sky and Virgin.

I need to know how the service compares to using Sky+ and if any of the features are better or worse with either one... does anyone use V+? If so, what do you think?

Excellent stuff. I don't really think I will miss Sky One tbh, but are there any other decent chanells missing?

Sky+ is a better service but if it's worth it depends on the price difference. I would call Sky+ and see if they can match Virgins offer. Be prepared to be sold Sky phone and Sky BB though. In this case, if it's something you dont want ( I have Sky TV and Virgin BB myself) then just get them off your case by saing there is no BT line to your house.

In what way is Sky+ a better service though? I need to know all the facts before making a decision.

i find the virgin + box terrible

the channel organisations are weired (eg UKTV Gold i say channel 100 and UKTV Gold + 1 is like channel 800)

the menus are slow and unresponsive, and i dont find it a joy to use at all, its painfull. i had one for a while, but got rid and went back to sky

best thing you can do, is find a mate with each and have a play :) failing that, find a mate with a V box, and have a play with sky at currys / dixons. they nearly always have a sky + demo box in the shop.

I have Sky+ already and I don't have any mates with V+. I might get it anyway as you get a 30 money back guarantee if you dont like it - I will keep Sky+ for that month also before making my mind up.

Cheers for your help all :)

I ordered the V+ box today. I will try it along side Sky+ for a few weeks and if I dont like it I will send it back ;) Sorted.

Ok, I have V+ installed today and it all seems pretty decent. I have few questions though.

I can only find one HD channel and it seems to be a preview channel from the BBC - anyone know if there are more HD channels due out anytime soon?

Also, I found a whole list of 4 digit codes for tuning the V+ remote to my TV for volume, but non of them seem to work! Anyone else had this problem and found a solution? I have a Samsung 32" TFT

Bah good luck getting HD with Virgin.

The sky+ boxes are having a major revamp in the EPG in Feb so all the wee bits that are missing i.e pressing the info button on another program, i find this very annoying, will be implemented along with watching a mini tv in the tv guid.

Try 0628 or 0065 and 0646 dude.

There for the sky remote bur should work with the virgin box too i believe.

I'm not too fussed about having HD channels tbh. The picture quality is already noticably different using component from V+ over using scart on Sky+.

Tried those remote codes and they didn't work either!!! It really annoys me having too many remotes about too!

One more question I have - With Sky+ I have a standard coax cable running up to my bedroom and have an attachment up there with a remote control receiver which will change the Sky channels via the coax.... will this work on V+? especially being as though i'm using HD output?

I seem to be getting a low humming noise from the V+ box and it's quite annoying... it's very quiet but still quite noticable! I'm sure it's from the HDD's but it could be to do with the acoustics of my cabinet which it's sitting in :(

I had that too - it's the vibration from the hard drive.

To solve it just pick it up a little and find out which part of the underside of the box you need to apply pressure to to get rid of the noise. For me it was the front centre underside of the box. Then just put something under that point so that it applies pressure when the box is laid down. Use some card or blutac or whatever.

I already tried putting some padding under the feet but that did nothing, I will give your method a go tonight.. Thanks;)
