Sky plus... can I

well whatever happens I need a sky box and a splitter what splitter are you talking about Jez. So will a sky plus box record from one feed just not 2 things at once? someone told me it wouldent. I just would have to be watching or recording and not both right? So if I turned it on whilst recording it would stop recording?

With a switcher as above it'll work pretty much as normal. The only issues that you will see will be the signal dropping off on the second tuner if you switch the first to a different band to what the second is trying to view. Check out the url of the image, very good sat parts shop. :) It really might be worth looking at extra LNB's though, as that splitter is not ideal, but at least it would get you kind of half working on the second tuner.

I spose it wont matter posting the url, www.satellitecentre.co.uk :) They have lots of bits and bobs, certainly everything ive ever needed.

There are 4 bands, high H, high V, low H, and low V, thats all so you shouldnt find it messing up TOO much really. Channel wise i spose you could check lyngsat.com for info on that.

Having said all this though, do check out some other LNB solutions, as that'd be a better bet.

so basically it will work fine hith 1/4 of the second tuner functionality. 90% of the time when recording I will not be there (thats why I want to, so this seems ideal) Thanks guys! lifesavers. any good/bad sky+ boxes. the one we have downstairs is a bit dody, its the 40gig standard one but sky have to keep coming to fix it. Which one should I get?

pace v2 tbh.

The v3 is nice but the 80gb hdd means more money for it. Not heard much good stuff about amstrads (their normal sky boxes aren't the best either whereas pace have been making sat receivers for as long as I can remember- talking back to analogue days over 10 years ago with the MSS series).

V1s are pretty old now and a bit on the slow side so best avoided unless its really cheap.

that site actually has a deal for the V3 at £120, thats not too bad considering its new and will be warrentied. I take it sky will have nothing to say about any of this? they wont be able to tell I have changed box will they? dont know wether to get that V3 for 120 or surf a well known auction site, the idea of a warrenty is nice.
They are coming to install the multiroom in my room on saturday so I'll just rip it all out when theyv gone, put this lot in and sell the box they gave me.

Right... I just tried unplugging one of the feeds on our sky+ box downstairs and it said it was ringing sky and wouldent display anything. So before I buy this V3 box, are we sure it will work with this splitter on it? and will sky know about it/be unhappy about it?

Remember you're going to need to phone up Sky and activate the Sky+ functions on your card, but I don't know if they'll actually let you do it.. from what I've read they'll only let you have 2 Sky+ boxes activated if you don't have any additional Multiroom subscriptions.

You say it's your parents house etc... but if you got the dish and LNB swapped out it's not as if the installer would do any damage. I imagine they could even use the esixting holes or bracket to mount the new dish so that new holes do not have to be drilled.

yea might be the best way I reckon. I will see if my Ma and Pa go for it or not sounds like a lot of hassle to get it running on this splitter might aswell see If I can get it sorted properly.
Cheers guys.

I think it's worth doing the job properly to get full functionality from the box.

Have you tried calling a local installer and getting an all-in price from them, including the box?

the sky 'engineers'. I resent that term. Like hell they have an engineering degree or professional qualifications. Some do and are good at what they do but most of them are just ladder monkeys who've been given a sat meter and sds+ and told to go off and chuck up dishes

I agree, but they may have dealt with this situation before. no harm in asking. If anyone missed that bit I haveing multiroom fitted on saturday (with a normalk box) for £50
