SKY Q and LG misleading promotion.

Having purchased an OLED55E6V with the SKY Q promotion being a significant factor I applied for and received the code from LG to supply to Sky.

Unfortunately SKY refused to honour it claiming the promotion only applied to NEW SKY Q customers.
Yes I was already a paying SKY Q customer and thought I was about to get a significant saving which played a big part in my deciding to purchase.

Nowhere in any LG advertising online or elsewhere or in any retailers promotional material does it mention this clause at all and this includes LG's terms and conditions pages.

Whilst having a very annoyed but polite conversation with SKY we found mention of this at the very bottom of one particular page of the SKY Q promotion web pages and even then it was ambiguous as it says existing SKY Q customers get free multiscreen for a year. Well i am a SKY customer.
Then in really small print at the very bottom of page it states:

NEW SKY Q customers only. All SKY Q equipment is loaned to you at no cost and must be returned at the end of your subscription.

So do you take that literally as NEW SKY Q customers only or do you take it that its informing NEW SKY Q customers that the equipment is loaned and must be returned.

To me its ambiguous.

Either way I was angry enough to fire off a complaint to the Advertising Standards Authority complete with all offending web pages from the retailer, LG website and SKY's promotion pages.

I am still completely satisfied with the TV and believe it is the best i could get.

Was I a complete and utter retard or am I not the only one to have been deceived?

http://www.lg.com/uk/skyq/sub/partnership/index.html

It says in really big text that it's new subscriptions only. It even explains how the new subscription cost is calculated. Everything is clearly marked with an asterisk stating that terms and conditions apply and the first thing it says in the T&Cs is it's new subscriptions only.

I do think the TV is good enough to keep it, but I agree that it's pretty disingenuous of LG and Sky to make the offer in this way. It could be clearer.

If your out of contract cancel and sign up in a partners name or other family member and make use of it, I did this when I still had sky years ago and wanted a deal on the new at the time 2tb box.

I was out of contract and new customers were getting the box free, they wouldn't even offer it at a discounted price so cancelled and my gf signed up, a couple of days later a new 2tb box for free, had them swap the dish while at it as it was getting a bit rusty.

I purposely signed up in my girlfriend's name for this so we could circumvent their 'new customers' get the good deal and 'existing customers' get the rubbish deal policy.

Worked a charm for me. The receipt for the TV wasn't even in her name but they still accepted it as proof of purchase.

I didn't even bother to redeem my code. You basically get a a load of SD channels and need to pay extra for HD. A complete joke when you consider that you've just bought an OLED TV, so watching SD content is literally the last thing on your mind.

I have had a reply today from the ASA upholding my complaint.

Small excerpt below remember the ASA reviewed all web pages available at time of complaint.

We consider that the condition that the LG Sky Q promotion isn’t available to current Sky Q customers is a significant condition which should be made clear in ads for the promotion. We’ve therefore today contacted LG and asked them to amend their ads for the promotion to ensure that this condition is stated prominently in their ads. We’ve also asked them to contact LG retailers to inform them that they should also make the same changes to their ads featuring the promotion.

True, but you also get half price off all their other packages

So using the LG promo I got a free Sky Q silver 2TB box, free Mini Q box, paid just £60 for installation and also decided to take the 'Sky boxsets' which will cost me £18 a month which gives me 50+ HD channels and access to some 4k boxsets content.

Not bad really.

Err not exactly free sky Q for a year though is it I would have expected the full sky Q for a year.

'Sky Q' is the box/system not the subscription channels, so I didn't really feel mislead.

I believe a 2TB silver box usually costs £199.99 just to rent and you then have to normally pay extra per month for the mini box as well.

Anyway, having previously used Freesat (Humax PVR downstairs/built in Freesat upstairs) I'm really happy with the Sky Q system and the Sky Q mini streaming.

I paid £0 for my sky Q box. Paid £0 for my mini box.

I have the full package in HD minus sports and movies. I paid £0 installation and my bill is £12 per month.

I used a F & F code. Just goes to show you the promotion isn't that great tbh. Better out there.

They aren't yours.

Well they are in the sense I'm the only one using them, they are in my home and I have full use of them. Also I don't care if Sky owns them and I have to send back when I cancel, means if they break whilst in contract they have to fix them for free, it's a win/win situation. Also they have never done this before, we will see if they actually ask for them back when I cancel, I know virgin media are 50/50 about that too. Times I've cancelled and heard nothing, others they have sent me stuff to post them back for free.

Indeed, you are paying £6 a month less than me and didn't pay a one-off cost of £60 for installation.

To suggest that a lot of people have this Friends and Family deal isn't really accurate though is it.

Certainly the LG Promotion was better than our resident Sky code forum member MissChief was offering at the time:

I haven't decided if I'm going to claim my offer or not, ideally want virgin for the house instead of sky anyways and not too bothered about TV as prefer what I have on disc or streamed.

Strange, I recently bought a LG B6 and used the code LG gave me after sending them the proof of purchase.

I'm an existing SKY customer but I was out of contract. When I processed the SKY Q order using the code, it said I had to pay a £60 install fee but it all went through. its being installed today.

Why on earth would you want Virgin over Sky ??

Fair enough if you have neither and just stream etc, but if you were to have one or the other, then Sky is the ONLY way to go .

My brother has worked for Virgin for 5 years and even though he can get incredible staff discounts, he has had Sky TV for the entire time.
had Virgin TV installed, but gave up with it after just a couple hours, and plugged his Sky box back in.

He says even the new Virgin V6 box is not a patch on Sky+ HD, and Sky Q blows it out of the water on every front.
