*** Sky Q Thread ***

So go Virgin broadband and Sky Q? Used to speak to loads of people who did that.

Have that myself.

Sky Q for TV on main box and two mini boxes.
And broadband only from Virgin, no one can match their speeds in our area, and for us (touch wood) we have always had total consistency of speed, and no major problems.

I switched last October as Virgin is so much cheaper, the box isn't too bad really. £79 for BT sport, sky sports, cinema, 500Mb broadband, unlimited sim and landline. Sky cant compete, with them it would be £120+.

Anyone who has binned Q off for a virgin box, how are you finding it?
My current Q contract ends 2nd December & I'm seriously considering leaving for various reasons.

I had Virgin for Tv about 6 or 7 years ago, back when you could only record 2 channels at a time. is this still the same?
I assume Virgin doesn't offer a UHD option like Sky does as well?

Have they just rolled out another update?

I'm showing Q130 on one of my minis now (as opposed to Q120 which was the 'big' update with the revised interface) and I'm positive the text on the TV Guide has been made larger again.

Q130 is indeed rolling out starting today by all accounts - I was obviously in the first batch.

Watch out when you do get it as my main box reset to 1080i output and it took me a moment to work out what on earth was wrong.

Thanks all for the responses, I think we'll stick with Sky+ HD as long as possible then!

The lack of individual planners per box also puts me off with Sky Q.
It's been suggested many times but I don't know if it's going to happen. It kind of defeats the whole mini box watch in one room and carry on in another.

On the old Sky HD+ boxes, Sky used to reserve a lot of the disk for their own purposes. So on a 1TB unit, I believe you in fact only had 500GB.

With a 1TB Sky Q box, is that still the same? Or do you now have more of that disk for storage?

We currently have a 1TB Sky HD+ box, and are looking to upgrade to a 1TB Sky Q box and wondering if we'll in effect get more storage.

The Q boxes give you the full storage. I've got the 2TB box and it shows as that for storage.

The older HD+ boxes had to keep space for the on demand and such i think due to the way it worked. Q doesn't work like that. Programmes download when you select them. Or in some cases will just stream.

Great.

So moving from a 1TB Sky HD+ box to a 1TB Sky Q box I will something like double the space available.

I can upgrade for free so it's tempting, although I've heard some folks suggesting the Sky Q interface causes them issues compared to the older (HD+) one.

Does anyone else feel the latest update is a step back? I find it more long winded now and more button presses to do things. Also the picture in picture doesn't show in certain menus, no idea why.

The Sky Q UI isn't great since the recent changes. If have you a series recorded and you want to delete the one you've just watched before watching the next then watch out as when you go back to the menu at the end of the episode the delete option you get presented with (a single click to the right will take you there) is to actually delete the next one on the series and NOT the one you just watched. If you want to delete the one you've just watched you have to push down a few times and then delete it from there.

I've lost count of the number of times I've accidentally deleted the wrong episode.

Also, the picture in picture doesn't show up as often as it did which seems odd.

The previous version of the UI was significantly better.

I never watch stuff using that top thing. I always scroll down to the episode list and watch from there. Then after its just a click to the right to delete the one just watched.

I've also started using the new voice remote a lot more. Its got a lot more functionality than it used to. Simply sat open and the app name to open Netflix, Disney+ etc. Say a channel name and it will change the channel. Eg E4 HD. It works great.

That's concerning... Just realised a lot of people report the Sky Q picture (in HD) looks inferior to the Sky HD+ picture... Seems a fairly common complaint people report the picture looks 'softer'...

I think the picture looks great, well depending on the channel.
Well, seems there's quite a few people who find the move to SkyQ from a SkyHD+ box a drop in HD picture quality. Some even seem to revert back because of it...

I'd hate to upgrade and realise I've got a reduction in my picture quality...
