Something really odd has now happend twice to me with SKY, im on the max package. Yesterday both mine and my wifes lappies failed to find my Wireless Network, i changed it from the SKY12345 default SSID to something else along with password etc, somehow the router had defaulted back to default settings just wondering if its a problem with the router or have sky been hacking in? or someone else for that matter  anyone else experienced anything like this, the worst bit is i had loads of settings for VNC and FTP etc and Id made a backup, now when i try to restore it the router doesnt like the previous backup :(

Are you sure you didn't hit the reset button on the router bud? There's no way it can simply reset itself back to factory default settings.

I can also assure you there's also no way Sky would ever access your router and reset it either.

ive hit reboot router numerous times, but 100% didnt hit reset as it was working fine the previous day, and for it to do this twice now is a bit odd, unless some outside hacker has done this :S

Its more than likely coming from the firmware on the router than any hacker bud. What type of router is it - Netgear or Sagem?

Am assuming you've got wireless security setup - WEP or WPA?

Netgear one which i believe is a 834gt, using WPA security what annoys me i used the backup utility to create a backup of my settings and it doesnt work :(

The backup file is stored as a cfg file on your computer bud - it doesn't automatically reinstall itself.

If you go back to the router GUI under "maintenence" and select "Backup settings" and then choose "Restore saved settings from a file". Once you've located this on your PC you should be good to go.

The only other way Sky would effect your actual router settings is if there's a firmware upgrade downloaded but to the best of my knowledge these are restriced to a staff trial at the moment.

Sorry bud didn't mean to sound patronising there :(

If thats the case then its possible the file may have been corrupted - possibly down to a fault with the firmware on the router? If your router persists in doing this then phone Sky (08705 515 515). If you call after 2300hrs you've a better chance of speaking to a UK based call centre ;)

Replacing a router is an easy solution but an important one for any tech support guy you speak to as it allows them to eliminate this as the potential cause of the issue. If you need any further help with this my email is in trust bud
