So I just got home to find a nice letter from Sky (fancy that eh).
Long and the short of it is that as of 1st September they are removing the multiroom charge from the HD service.
So you pays your £10, you gets HD on every box.
Good thing I just had Sky replace all 3 of my old plus boxes for shiny new HD ones a week ago for free :D

How did you swap them for free?
Might check my post, I was going to upgrade my mutliroom to HD next week.
Got a feeling you need an extra cable though...

Wait till Sept then :)

Is there no end to Sky's legendary benevolence? Its about time they dropped the HD sub altogether.

Had a special offer from them to swap out my old decrepid Thompson for a new box.
Logged on to the website to order the swap and low and behold I was able to swap out my other 3 ageing pace plus boxes for new HD ones too.
Guess they REALY wanna push HD :D

Currently we pay for multiroom, my grandparents have one of the early Sky+ boxes and I've got a crappy Thompson box which doesn't even have recording capabilities. Can I upgrade our package to multiroom with HD on Sky's website or do I have to call them up? Also will they be providing us with free HD boxes or would we have to pay for them? I just figured that the £10 a month is better spent on HD channels and two shiny new boxes.

Cheers in advance. :)

Literally just did this upgrade myself, upgraded my sisters box and got a box for my room. Obviously the main one is in the living room. Got 2 SkyHD boxes, we don't need the + versions as there is one in the living room, for a one off fee of £98 (Which is brilliant considering if we only upgraded my sisters box and didn't get mine added, it would be a one off of £159 ) Costing us the extra £30.75 (2xHD and 1xAdditional Multiroom) But that's going to drop in Sept when they do away with the HD charge :D

To answer above, you can upgrade to multiple options, if you don't need the + then that works out as the best deal with a box only costing a one off fee of £49 and then the extra £10.25 for the additional HD pack. Not sure if you'd need a new dish or anything we didn't as we already have one HD box, but if you don't that might incur additional charges for replacing the dish/cabling.

Thanks. At the moment we have an old white Amstrad plus box in the living room, and a Thompson box in my room. We'd need to have one HD+ box and one standard HD box, I'm assuming we'll need to pay for them then? :)

Yeah my guess would be that to upgrade both, would cost a fair bit and like when we had our system upgraded to HD they'll have to change something on the dish itself for the HD signal. If you can get the details or if you're the account holder by chance, I would log on as it breaks it down for you, showing you all of the subscriptions and packages you have at the moment and allows you to add/remove stuff and it'll show you the new monthly cost and the one off fees separately.

I'll go and take a look on their site and see what kind of prices we're looking at. If it's too high then I'll wait a while but if we can have it done cheaply then that'll be great. Thanks for the help. :)

Id be tempted to call and nag them as you have one of the Thompson boxes.
They should just come and change it for you.

As I said, I had my Thompson swapped and 3 (THREE) of the old white plus boxes with new HD+ boxes for nothing.
