Just to point out that the PC Sky Player only requires a 1 month rolling contract, so not only do you not need a Sky dish, you don't need a lengthy subscription either :)

I've got it on PC at the moment, the quality is watchable enough

It's available for download on the 360 now. :)

edit: Just downloaded it but it doesnt seem to work just yet, says it cant connect to the service.

Installed it, went to try it out and crashed my xbox. Tried again and just won't connect. Connection test does say I have a problem but only down to a NAT. I still connect, download ok. Use SkyPlayer on my PC and connects fine (though a little iffy if not cabled in and using WiFi).

Hopefully can get it working, it is the same t.v I use sky on but it's selecting movies necessarily not on the movie channel at that time I like

EDIT: Just noticed above, maybe it is turned 'on' yet ;)

All working now.
Quality seems ok however it could be better as the picture isn't smooth when theres fast movement.

I reguarly use my folks Sky sub to watch SkySports and SkyMovies on my PC's at my home. You can register up to four PC's ( one which can include the 360 ). The drawback is that only one device, the main computer, can watch the premium channels such as SkySports and Movies. And you can only change the main device one a month.

So I can use my mums premium sub to register for this and watch Sky Sports(live football matches on a Sunday?)/Movies on it through my 360? How much is a multi room sub?

When you sign up with a SkyiD you can use XBOX1MONTHFREE for 1 month free multiroom Sky Player.

Any news on pricing for non-sky subscribers? The website passes me on to sign up for a SkyID, which would appear to require credit card info. Don't really wanna give this without knowing what the pricings gonna be!

Microsoft and Sky's Official Xbox Sky Player Price Plan & Channel Listing Announced
Written Tuesday, October 27, 2009 by Dan Webb

If you've been sat here for the past week praying that the rumoured price and channel listing we posted last week for the Sky Player on your Xbox was no more than a superficial rumour, then let me be the first to break the bad news.

With the Sky Player hitting the UK today, Microsoft and Sky today released the price plan for their service and to say the pricing is a little inflated is a bit of an understatement.

Check out all the plans/pricing/channel listing below. Then to see how absurd they are, head on over to see the original Sky price plans here. My personal favourite, for the top package on the Xbox, you can go to Sky, pay £7 more and get free broadband, free phone, Sky HD and a crapload more channels. Just saying.

Oh, and you need to be an Xbox Live Gold Member as well. Hey, if you have multiroom or Sky Broadband, at least you can get it free.
The Subscription Plan and Channel Listing Breakdown

Non– Sky TV customers will require a monthly subscription which starts at £15 per month to Sky Player’s Base Entertainment Pack, customers who want watch Sky Sports 1, 2, 3, ESPN and Sky Movie channels will be able to add these channels to their Base Entertainment Pack for an additional cost. In addition to the live channels, customers will also have access to on-demand programmes from channels they subscribe to.

Customers with Sky Multiroom or Sky Broadband Unlimited subscriptions are additionally able to access live channels for no extra charge. Customers who do not have subscriptions to Sky Broadband Unlimited or Sky Multiroom are still able to access the live channels by taking an online Sky Player multiroom subscription for £5 per month.

Ok, so I have Sky with no multi room and we have the mid broadband package.

So I can use Sky via Xbox if I pay £5 a month?
But I can only use Sky on one of my xbox's, but not both (eg the one upstairs)?
Will I get to watch anything on Sky via Xbox, that I don't already have on Sky TV? What is this TV on demand thing?

Not very impressed with Sky / Xbox's organisation with this new feature, everything has been so vague.

Edit: They haven't even updated the Xbox.com Sky announcement page!!

Where does it go after you download it? I can see it on the 360 hard drive in Memory Settings, but i can't find it anywhere!

It was on Spotlight, but after i turned my 360 off and then on its disappeared! Not in Video Marketplace either.

Sky are fools, they think they can get away with it being as expernsive as Sky TV despite them not actually delivering the content, it is going over my ADSL and using my bandwidth, no sattelites required, it should be cheaper!

Listening to Radio 1. They have just said it has been removed because of problems and they hope to have it working again later today.

I'd hazard a guess at it costing them more to provide this service than the classic satellite infrastructure.

Remember that it's costing them bandwidth as well as you, along with the costs of the servers and such like...with satellite it costs the same regardless of whether 1 person or 60million people are watching it.

I still agree though, it shouldn't cost even close to the amount of their full satellite based service considering the reduced quality, fewer channels and its seeming inability to provide a 100% stable service at peak times.
