Currently on virgin and paying far to much(~110 all in)and found out virgin dont have food network despite it being on freeview(last straw), no f1hd and no skygo equivalent. I work at least 1 week in 3 in a hotel.
I'm out of contract so I'm thinking of moving tv to sky, but keeping virgin media. What deals are about? And not half price for three month type deals, is there any 12month ones to cover the whole contract. Depending on price either full channels + hd with second box or full channels HD, movies/sports and second channel.

Also I take it still need a phone line? Can I use VM phone line?

I despot sky's total lack of CS, but looks like it makes finacial and product sense.

Have you rang VM to maybe discuss the issue about cost and that its cheaper elsewhere and you want to cancel :)
Maybe the retentions team will offer you some deal to keep you, As a customer who pays that much a month im sure they would.

I have never connected my Sky HD boxes to a phone line, nor did I when I just had Sky+ many years ago.

Everything still works, Sky has never contacted me about it.

I just have my Sky HD box connect to my network for Sky Anytime+ & you can use any provider now.

No reason why you can't use or need a VM phone line, but I would wait until you get sky installed then get rid of the phone line, as you might just get a jobs worth Sky engineer who demands a phone line before he will install.

i've done exactly the same as you. switched back to Sky TV but kept my 50mb + phone.

virgin wanted me to stay and offered me top package everything for £73pm. I decided to go with sky as hey offered any package half price + multi room free for 12 months.

Glad i switched back as the quality of TV over virgin is like day & night. HD is much crisper and sharper and you also have the added bonus of more HD channels and more content than Virgin. Sky Go is like having another multi room subscription. especially if you link it to your laptop whilst you're away or like us (once it rolls out) link it to our sons PS3 so he can watch TV in his bedroom.

Also if you get a friend with sky to recommend you first, you will both get £75 of vouchers - I think from a choice of a few places now.

Just done that recently myself with someone who got sky for F1

Your sky box must have been connected to a phone at some point as a phone line is needed for pairing the skycard to the skybox...

And a phoneline is only needed to be left connected if you have sky multi-room (as this is sky way of policing that multi-room skyboxes are only being used in the same house)

My parents have multiroom and have no phone connection to either box so this can't be applied 100%.

having experienced a Sky 'Engineer' doing an install in the past and knowing that multiroom boxes need to be connected after a friend got letters and was nearly charged, in my experience the 'engineers' don't bother their **** as they get to save time not doing it and Sky can't check up on everyone as it would mean about 10% of Sky's customer base (probably more!) all getting letters at the same time. Sky wouldn't be able to cope! I suspect they letter a small number, maybe even less than 1,000 every few months to keep some people honest.

Chaparral: Nope.

I just phoned Sky, gave Pace box serial number, viewing card number & a few other details & that was that.

Plus I have Sky multi room.

Even cheaper I'm not sure. Skygo is a massive selling point ad I work away 1 in 3weeks. Combine that with no f1hd, no sky Atlantic and no food network and even cheaper it's not looking good.

.

How did you get 1/2 price for 12months?
