Skydrive free allowance slashed to 7GB

I don't use any, that's the point.

Well, I don't in the sense of a cloud service - I use a bitlocker USB stick instead. What I'm saying is if the option was there I'd probably use it a lot.

Opted in, not like I use SkyDrive, but nice to know the space is there if I need it! :) Got 50GB with Box.net from getting a TouchPad as well which I don't use either! :D

It'll never come along on popular services because it is purely an overzealous nerd/if you *really* have something to hide pursuit.

Most people want to have a backup online that they can then use to share certain files with other people/view photos in a nice web interface/have a web interface/integrate with other services by that storage provider/view on a mobile device/etc.

All that means the files need to be "viewable" by Apple/Microsoft/Google/Dropbox.

SpiderOak does offer full encryption...

Last time I tried SpiderOak, it was hopelessly slow and unreliable, with a steaming turd of a desktop client. Wuala on the other hand is rather nice... shame they got rid of the diskspace-trading option, although I suppose it was never going to be a realistic model in practice.

As regards encryption generally, it's not so much that I have anything specific to hide (apart from banking and other financial data); I just don't like the idea that strangers *could* go poking through my private stuff as and when they felt like it, even if they're unlikely to actually do so.

I think privacy is a pretty basic human need, it's why most of us have curtains in our windows... and I've never liked the "if you've nothing to hide, you've nothing to fear" argument, it's a slippery slope towards dictatorship /tinfoilhat. :p

15GB uploaded so far. :p

What have you been uploading?! :D

Thanks for the heads up. I use Skydrive as my phones photo backup. It might have taken quite a while to get to 7GB but it saves having to pay.

In regards to the encryption, for my usage it's nothing incriminating nor a matter of national security (I wish it was that glamorous) just plain old work policy.
