Skyforge is right around the comer. An unashamed theme park mmo with emphasis on flashy combat and graphics. The pvp features 100v100 guild vs guild style warfare and there is plenty of pve too. Being made by Allods team and the rpg veterans Obsidian.

From the wiki:

In Skyforge, player takes on a larger than life role as an immortal with incredible powers battling to protect his world from the armies of hostile gods, eventually becoming a god themselves.Character progression within the game is not level based.Instead of a traditional leveling format, Skyforge featuires a “prestige” system, which allows a player to advance based on the sum total of their stats and progression. This system allows Skyforge players to develop and switch to multiple classes, rather than being locked into an early game class choice like common MMOs. As a player gains more prestige, additional content, gear, and followers are unlocked.Once god mode is achieved Skyforge includes an additional progression system which allows users to manage their followers to increase their character's overall power.

Closed beta next week, £15 gets you in and some founder benefits. Anyone getting / got it?

It's another MMO that will likely fall flat on it's face. Nothing will beat WoW :( At least not the old school WoW. Not what it's become these days.

I don't really think anyone expects anything to "beat" wow. I think most of us realize a game doesn't need wow numbers to be successful or sustainable. Even publicly perceived flops are still going strong for example swtor.

Personally I played so much wow it's impossible to find it fun. Will another mmo give the same feeling wow once gave? Unlikely. However if I can have fun that's good enough for me.

No FPS wil ever be as amazing as quake3 was for me, likewise no a-rpg will ever have the feeling diablo2 once did for me, however I won't ignore the whole genre as a result :p

WoW was popular but frankly probably not the beat mmorpg, most people I know didn't play any mmo before it so had nothing to compare it to either.

I'm sick of the "you are the most important person in the game! You will eventually become a GOD!" thing.

You and the other 100,000 people in their own little instances :(

I still reckon UO was the best MMO - nothing has ever come close!

WoW however was by far the most polished, both when it came out, and in fact still. It just "works", it plays well, the controls and UI are intuitive, it looks good (at least did when it came out), and had/has huge amounts of content, with (IMO) none of the annoying little quirks and bugs that the majority of MMOs both past and present had/have...

and cash shop funding, tbh I've yet to find a good mmo with longevity that wasn't subscription base e.g. Ultima online, Dark age of camelot and begrudgingly WoW.

Within my first half hour in Ultima, I'd been dumped on the streets of Britain with nothing but the clothes on my back. Within a half hour I'd been tricked, blown up, and my naked corpse left to rot on the pavement.

That was a PROPER introduction to an MMO world :D

This is sadly true, I mainly played Lineage 2 before it. And nothing beat that in terms of PVP and proper grinding (my god, lv40 class quests! Easily 3 days of farming).

then EA screwed crafters badly

Well I have bought the founders pack and I am really looking forward to it with some of the videos that have been passed around.

You didn't play DAOC did you Sleepery? Sure I use to be in a guild with someone using that name, or similar.

My first hour of UO was similar, figured out I could go mining near Vesper then ended up being attacked out of the blue by a random guy (Wasn't red). Went back to where I'd died and he's taken everything, including my one newbie pick. I did remember his name, took me almost 4 years to get my own back on him and I got far more than a newbie pick lol
