i know the 2011-v3 cpu with the X99 mb rocks right now.

do you think its worth getting the 1151 - skylake with a view of upgrading the cpu later for skylake-e in 2016 or will this be a new socket ?

100% will be a different socket.

Personally, I'll be going Z170 + Skylake because I only need 1 GFX card and will be using 2.5" SATAIII SSDs.

Only you'll know if you need the extra capabilities the current X99/Haswell-E offer, which is generally much greater PCI-E lanes.

many thanks for the reply

I don't think you will need the 6/8 core cpu for gaming for some time, unless you need it for anything else and multi gpu setups.
I just ordered a 6600K to pair it up with Asus gtx 970 dcu II and I am sure it will be plenty for anything I throw at it. No point spending a lot now, if you are going to get the 'upgrade itch' next year or so ;)
