Skylake Prices 'Leaked'

Sure, but US Sales tax brings their price up as well. I'm just highlighting that the US pricing that we all see doesn't ever actually include tax. Because of the way it works in the US everything is priced sans tax, then it's added on at the end when paying.

*grammar*

The fun of using a phone (grammer)

I was aware in the US you pay the tax at the till hence I added our tax to the price given as we expect the price to include tax (VAT)

Not worth dwelling on

Let's hope it's less than £300

Can't we get a "friend" to send one from the US to UK? Pay him £220 and we are still getting a decent deal :D

Same so can i if i wanted too or i can get it brought by cargo ship but that's only when hes coming to the UK to drop off new cars or collecting them.

Just to clarify I am not necessarily saying there is a rip off britian, the original poster did

All I was saying is vat brings it £240 plus shipping costs before the rip off Britian factor if it exists

My bad grammer

Why would we have any extra shipping costs? The chips have 'Manilla' stamped on them so shipping to the US will probably cost much the same as shipping into Europe.

I was considering doing this. A 5820k was $300 from a specific store, getting it sent over here with insured shipping was another $60, however... If your package doesn't sneak through customs you will have to pay a £13 + 20% of item+shipping value tax, which entirely ruins it.

Also, it makes it a pain for warranty if it's DoA.

The vast majority of hardware in the UK is the same price as it is in the US, plus VAT.

The US price is also plus sales tax. This rip off Britain thing is not as prevalent as people make out, because 9 times out of 10 they're ignoring US sales tax as if it doesn't exist.

Here's a case example. Build I helped a US friend with couple weeks ago:

XBOX One Controller
Samsung External DVD writer
Western Digital Desktop 1TB HDD
Samsung 850 EVO 250GB SSD
Intel i7-4790K Retail
Asus Z87 Gryphon
EVGA GTX 970 FTW 4GB
Logitech K400 Wireless Keyboard/Touchpad
G.Skill Sniper 16GB (2x8GB) 2133MHz RAM
EVGA G2 650W Gold
Coolermaster N200 Micro-Atx case
Windows 7 Home Premium

All new. And after taxes and rebates (which make up for taxes plenty), grand total of $1,200.

That equated to £775 at the exchange rate a couple of weeks ago. Can you fit all that hardware into an under £1,000 spec in the UK? Nah.

YOUR BASKET
1 x EVGA GeForce GTX 970 FTW "Plus Edition" ACX 2.0 4096MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card (04G-P4-3978-KR) £299.99
1 x Intel Core i7-4790K 4.00GHz (Devil's Canyon) Socket LGA1150 Processor - Retail £289.99
1 x Kingston HyperX Savage Red 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 PC3-19200C11 2400MHz Dual Channel Kit (HX324C11SRK2/16) £79.99
1 x Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64-Bit - OEM (GFC-02733) £79.99
1 x Samsung 250GB 850 EVO SSD 2.5" SATA 6Gbps 32 Layer 3D V-NAND Solid State Drive (MZ-75E250B/EU) £77.99
1 x EVGA Supernova G2 650W '80 Plus Gold' Modular Power Supply £74.99
1 x Seagate 1TB SATA-6Gb 7200rpm 64MB (1 Year Warranty) £34.99
Total : £947.53 (includes shipping : £8.00 Ex.VAT).

Nearly up to £1,000 already and missing motherboard, XBOX controller, wireless keyboard/touchpad, external DVD writer and case.

Sales tax? Depends on state but in their case they paid sales tax (6.25%) on three items (HDD, SSD, CPU) so far. If they were to pay tax on the rest, it would amount to $48.06, or £30.79.

So once all is said and done, you get a build like that for £300-£400 cheaper in the US.

Yeh need to add Vat so that £240 plus shipping to UK extra plus the rip off britian

Whilst VAT is true, shipping to the UK is not really any different from shipping to the US.

The ones we get in Europe will most likely have been produced somewhere nearby.

Also the chips hardly weigh anything and don't take up much volume. Shipping say 50,000 anywhere in the world will work out quite cheap on a per unit basis.

Whilst this is possible I note many of the 4790k people have been having recently were from Vietnam this is not listed under Wikipedia I note manila isn't either. However lots in the US are!

However if it makes people happy Shipping could be the same less or more depending which fab are used to supply which countries.

I really didn't post my original post in order to annoy anyone

I don't dispute the fact that the US price will be plus tax because they add at the till and we usually (Britian) see a price including tax, not sure if the prices originally quoted were rrp or retailer purchase price. I also posted I would be happy to pay between £270 and £300
I would like it cheaper but don't expect it to be.

Can we move away from this now. I accept I did not think through the whole of the original comment

Appreciate the fact you did some research at least we have an idea,

Any spelling or grammer mistakes I apologise for in advance as I am still on my phone.
