Skylake

Probably asking for a bit too much here but worth a shot.

Might get lucky and have some people who have monitored previous releases who will have a rough idea..

I'm considering waiting for the new Skylake CPU's to come out and in doing so I would be upgrading my GPU to R9 290X as well as some new fans/controllers/etc for the time being.

If I were to hold out on Skylake, how much do you reckon the following would cost? roughly of course

- 16GB DDR4 RAM
- Decent mobo (preferably Sabertooth or Asus ROG or Gigabyte Gaming series)
- i7 6700k retail
- Latest Hydro CPU cooler for LGA 1151 Socket

If I were to purchase the similar items currently (4790k, 16GB DDR3 2400MHz, Z97X-Gaming 7, 750W PSU, Hydro H110i GT) it would be about £666.91.

Do you think there would be a huge price jump between the current items and the new Skylake series?

RAM - well hopefully dual channel kits (2x8GB) will come out soon so you dont have to buy a 4X4GB kit, price is probably similar to whats out now.

Mobo - similar to what you see now

CPU - No idea.

Cooler - £80-100.

Do you reckon the new CPU will be similar to current prices (say the 4790k at £290) in which case it'll all be a similar price (less the £50 saving on the OcUK bundle with PSU)?

For the first time in my life I'm actually tempted to wait 2 months.

I cant honestly say, but Intel do not have any competition so have no reason to make prices competitive.

Do you remember what the launch price on the 4790k was?

It was less than it is now.

£250-260'ish.

Ah, did the 4790k have much competition from AMD at that point?

Hopefully they'll release it about £250-300 point then

No competition even back then.

The best AMD have (FX9590) sucks hard when compared to the 4790K or indeed the 4770K

Ah so they released it at a sensible price without competition, so hopefully it's similar again now.

So I guess I will hold off and try to get new generation CPU with DDR4 RAM, mobo, psu and hydro cooler for about £700-800 on launch

Some Z170 boards (the new chipset for Skylake) will be DDR3, DDR3 and DDR4 (two dimm slots of each such as one or two from Biostar I have seen) or just DDR4.

I'll probably go for the DDR4 board, although from what I've seen there isn't a huge difference between them or a clear performance 'leader' of the two.
