Surprised this hasn't been mentioned on here, saw the advert on kids TV on Saturday and thought it would be good for my boy who has a broken foot and can't get out. The concept is a brilliant money making idea with 32 characters to purchase plus adventure packs but both my boys absolutely love it. I bought the starter pack and 2 individual characters for the xbox and my ex bought the wii version with a 3 pack of characters. Characters are interchangeable between systems and maintain levels and customisations. The game looks very well put together and graphically looks top notch too. Anyone else played it yet?

Was in town at a certain purple games retailers earlier in the week with my mum and young brother, they are targeting this straight at parents. I think if they advertise heavily they'll sell loads before christmas as it does look like a great idea.

Sorry to bump a relatively old thread but my little boy has seen this/these advertised and is asking Father Xmas to get.

But first Father Xmas needs to know if it's a single player game or if it's multiplayer only?

He's only played Lego Xbox games in the past but has shown a real interest in this advert - and, agreed, it looks a great money spinner for the developers.

OK, i'm going to buy the Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure Starter Pack for my little boy.

Could someone in the know recommned the best 3 Triple Character Pack to compliment the starter pack so that he has a full gaming experience?

Thanks.

There are so many to pick from so it's hard to say. I would recommend getting 1 of each type if you can (water, fire, tech etc). As there are places you can only get if you have one.

Thanks for the advice - i'll do as you suggest as i expect he would find it frustrating being restricted from areas within the game.

After doing a quick google - i would need a minimum of 8 characters?

Magic
Tech
Water
Fire
Life
Undead
Earth
Air

Thanks again.

I don't suppose you know which are the more interesting triple packs to look out for - i.e. what chracters the kids (boys) tend to prefer?

I'm not sure to be honest, they have so many after birthdays etc i don't know what ones they prefer. There are adventure packs too, think there are 2, crypts and pirate thingy. They give access to new areas and special items like a heal potion you can put on the portal to heal the character.

It sounds seriously expensive, mind you.

Agreed, they really have hit on a great money spinning idea.

To access all the areas you need a minimum of 8 figures (from my limited knowledge of the game) - you get 3 with a starter pack ~£49 (xbox360) then it's ~£16 for packs of 3 add on characters.

So to access all areas Santa's going to have to cough up ~£80 so a my littleman can enjoy the whole game - 'if' i purchase all abilities.

He always gets one game for Xmas - he was interested in Lego Starwars 3 before he saw the advert - now he's mesmerized by this. He loves figures and adventure games so the combo of both is manna from heaven for him.

An update for those of you who helped me in this thread plus a mini review for those of you with kids who might be considering this game.

In a word it's brilliant.

Totally age appropriate and the figures that activate, once put on the pad, are very well modeled and portray their computer images accuratly - adding to my childs enjoyment considerably.

The game itself is well conceived and thought out and the graphics/art work are superb for this type of game and the age group it's aimed at. The gameplay is well executed - not too formulaic, good ingame physics and the dialogue is engaging and funny (for my 7 year old at least). Basically, he loves it.

It's an expensive game but, for my child, it was definetly worth the money - plus he's looking forward to getting new figures for his B'day so the replay value is great too (if they ever get stock).

I also bought this for my son at christmas and he absolutely loves it. Playing computer games is the main thing he's into so I got him Skylanders and 4 other games. He started playing this on Christmas day and never even touched the others until a good few days later.

I've not played it myself but even thought it's aimed at kids (and crippling their parents bank balance) I'd definitely play it if I had more time.
