Skyrim PC specs revealed !

Is there a reason this can't be discussed in the Skyrim thread? (where the specs have already been posted and discussed)

Is there a sane reason to have to read through dozens and dozens of posts to get the information I want from a few posts?

Does a new thread take up loads of disk space?

100% sure, confirmed by the developers and posted all over the official and steam forums.

Its also only a DX9 game, with DX11 mode on the PC being used only for performance optimizations.

However the vanilla game will still have higher quality settings on the PC compared to consoles, but TES V isnt going to be pushing hardware limits anywhere near as much as Oblivion did.

Basically we would have to wait for some determined and gifted part time developers to make this game the game it should be in the first place?

Therefore the PC version is an evolving version with a very charitable mod squad who spend their time making the game awesome... eventually. I can see how this is a massive selling point actually.

Thank god for these guys.

Guess I'll have to get it on the Xbox then. The ol' E8400 doesn't really sound up to it. Other than that I've got a 5850 1GB and 4GB of RAM.

The maps in the Elder Scrolls games have got smaller and smaller on each new release. So will Skyrim will be even smaller than Oblivion? Thats a bad thought.

Why do you think this?

Skyrim's game world has been estimated to be the same size as Oblivion and Morrowind combined, also the major cities are vastly larger than they were in Oblivion - the smallest villiages in Skyrim are half the size of the largest cities in Oblivion.

This time, rather than having randomly generated rubbish, they have created each area (including all dungeons) by hand :)

And this - Skyrim contains over 150 hand crafted diverse and unique dungeons rather than Oblivions copy pasta spaghetti dungeons.

Plus it has Dwemer ruins from Morrowind again, something that was ommited from Oblivion.

What on earth difference does 64 bit exe make? :/

A lot, it allows the game to use more than 3 Gb ram, which would help a lot for when people start making graphics mods.

Try running minecraft with the ultra high texture mods on 3 Gb system ram and see what happens. A hint - the game dies.

People who think they need more than 4gb of RAM = lol? Maybe a bit like that guy who needs to play games over 60fps?

Lol. Re-read my thread, you tool. It's about the feel of the fps and how sluggish a game is. Some games are horrible to play below a stable locked fps (i.e. vsync). Because I've played games for 13 years, and I also have OCD - mentioned in the post - I notice even the slightest of bad optimisation in games.

You're not alone Yosiah, you can definitely benefit from more than 60fps.

Andi.

This low disk requirement is worrying, in my opinion.

6GB to store the amazing looking visuals, lengthy campaign and sub quests, better acting then the last one (hopefully) and a massive RPG world(hopefully)....

To put this into perspective, anyone who has heard of Grey Matter, for example, a short very average if not below average looking adventure game, takes up 5.5GB.

F1 2010 7.5GB
Resident Evil 5 7GB

If I remember correctly, I think GTA IV takes up something like 16GB.

Can't remember the spec for Oblivion.

Maybe it's just me, but unless this should be 16GB, I'm concerned, or maybe I'll be amazed as to how they did it(hopefully).

Good spot, 6GB pretty much tells us on a game of this scale that the textures aren't going to be top of line, but rather average ones kept to a reasonable size for the console market.

Fortunately if past history is anything to go by we should see some community texture mods.

Bethsoft has reponded to all the commentary about the 6Gb hard drive space from yesterday's Skyrim system requirements announcement. From the Bethblog:

We’ve seen plenty of comments relating to the game only requiring six gigs of HDD space. Don’t worry… there’s still a ton of game in there. The total HDD space relates more to the compression opitmizations we’re able to do with The Creation Engine. Not only are do we think you’ll be impressed with how the game looks, but also how much faster it runs..

...and the forums:

Noticed several comments about the game size. New engine and we’re much better at compression on all things from art to voice to world data. It’s huge yet more optimized than we’ve had before.
