Slate chippings/gravel plus wheelie bins = nightmare?

I've got a really big drive of slate waste chippings, i've never had a problem with the bins but ours does get driven on so it's pretty much hard as concrete at this stage. but saying that even on the edge bits ive never had trouble dragging the bin around.

Our drive mostly looks like this. Slate waste compacts nicely and lies on top of itself where as gravel is more of a pain in my experience.

It appears you have built a railway line for the bins!

It's a grey one, anything that won't burn goes in it. There are green and purple ones, but they have been, err, "repurposed".

Thats a bit vague. So it sounds like a general waste one (the ones that just go to landfill). When you say anything that won't burn do you mean you burn plastic etc?

I've got gravel, it's a bit of a pain (especially with, now, three bins...) but it's only once a week so I live with it.

I burn everything that is combustible without external assistance. Anything that won't is crushed (like tin cans et cetera) and is rammed in the grey bin. Heavier and bigger metal objects are stashed and weighed in for money every three months or so.

You the archetypal dangerous dog owner aren't you?
Was that meant to be a question, or an assertion?
I've just come here from a Mags thread and the world of grammar is still spinning...

Either way, no - I don't actually own any dogs right now, and I'm not typically regarded as dangerous... not that either factor has anything to do with wheelie bin warriors - They're more into dumping cats, aren't they?

Why would you actively not recycle aluminum? :S

I do, cylinder heads, cylinder blocks, calipers, water pumps, gearbox casings, anything of worthwhilee weight and size. If the council want pre sorted materials that they then sell I expect to be paid for them, not to pay them to take them away. When I get a worthwhile amount of batteries, aluminium, steel or cast iron I get paid for it.

The alternative answer to why I would not recycle aluminum is of course that I am not an American ;)

Although I don't think I'll follow suit it's hard to argue with the overall notion.

In effect we are all paid for sorting our waste into various categories
If we all just put everything into the general we would all pay more for landfill, its charged by weight.
Recycling is a valid payment to the council as well on occasion, but its highly variable based on highly variable pricing for recovered materials.

I suppose we could all burn every thing as well, that would reduce the amount going to waste, would completely screw air quality however.

I think resident boomer thinks someone at the council is getting a back hander for the scrap aluminum versus it being another revenue line that gets balanced against the entire books (i.e. its impact is implicit in rates).

You can get hexagonal grids, such as Core Drive, which stabilise the gravel and make it a more solid platform. They work great in my experience.
That’s interesting actually. Spoke to the garden guy and he is veering us away from chippings. Says the edgings get damaged and it’s not just the annoyance of chippings ending up on your path but they can scratch the tiles up as well.
If this is the extent of your worries in 2023 things are going well for you.
Cheers mate.
Our drive mostly looks like this.
So you built a track for your bins? :p

Then track just happens to run past the bins :p
