*sobs* after staying up till really late last night getting all the files i needed (being a noob) i come back to find ALL my slaves gone, 5 virus's on my harddrive and EVERYTHING deleted

I thought I would offer a few lines of advice, from someone who has only recently started to have any luck:
- Don't delete other peoples files, although it can be useful, it only makes you a bigger target.
- Focus on getting 10+ mail slaves on the go to make money.
- When you have a little money, spent the extra on a decent bank account. There are some that cost $25, $30 and $50 to open an account. It is worth it.
- Money in accounts is not safe, there is no way of money ever being 100% safe so if you are saving up for something big, spread your money accross several accounts. [Thanks Garp]
- After everything you do, delete the log on the remote machine, and then the one on your machine. No exceptions.
- Your first upgrade should be ADSL speed or CPU speed. A bigger HD is not needed at the start.
- Make sure you get a good firewall as soon as possible. It will make you a lot less of an easy target.
- When deleting logs, cut'n'paste them into notepad etc so you can have a good look for interesting targets.
- Banks are good places to get logs as they will often show you people logging into their account, which gives you an ip to hack and an account to crack.
- To hack a bank account, all you need is the account number. However, make sure you can log into that bank (have the admin password) so you can get to the logs. To speed up the hacking process, delete the firewall first. Don't forget to erase the logs at every stage.
- If you do find you have been hacked, delete the virus etc and hope for the best. Changing your password as well, might be useful.
- If you find that people keep deleting your software or you are struggling to do anything, then reset your IP, change your password and perhaps even format the HD. It will give you a clean start and that can be very important.
- To get better software, you need to hack harder computers, to do that you need better and better versions of the waterwall software.
- There is an optional clues 'quest' to do. It will lead you from one computer to another picking up better software etc.

Get as many bank accounts as you can.
Spread your money amongst them. That way if you lose one its not quite so harsh on the pocket. I've got 4 and each time I collect from my slaves I chuck it to the bank account with the least money in it.

thanks. dont worry, becuase of the downtime i couldn't get them sorted. clearing my log just took forever so i just concertrated on getting the basic software up and running. cheers though lolCaustic said:

255.0.255.0 has a 0.5 waterwall. might help. if not, reset your ip and password
have reset ip, but , i hada waterwall in my software bit, what does it do? do i install it? or do i download and leave it there!?
