Sleep... How much do you need?

I can have like 8 hours sleep and feel fine when I wack up one day but the next I will feel horrid. Though I can easily have 4-5 hours sleep and feel great and another day feel horrid.

Ive also noticed that if I go to bed early in the morning say 2-3 and wake up at between 10am-12pm I feel really tired but if iget up at say 8am to 9am I fell fine.

Though I dont really need sleep because im a machine. It just gets really boring when there is nothing to do so I may aswell sleep.

i can have very little sleep, once went 2 nights and 3 days with not an ounch of sleep, so from friday until sunday 5pm-ish, but i find that it does begin to show if you don't get enough after a week or so, just in general tasks i find im much more lazy and down in the dumps

I'm 17 also and I get about 4-7 hrs sleep which does me fine combined with a fair amount of caffeine consumed throughout the day.

That article claims that 2 hours of sleep will do you fine

Well, i find that 4-6 is fine for me (17 years of age)

If i have around 8 or more i generally feel tired throughout the day

Opinions?
Manipulation of the sleep cycle is a bit flawed; not only are sleeping and waking hours rather unsociable, but as far as I'm aware the body just needs a good few hours for maintenance. If a man was raised on 2 hours sleep a night I wonder how tall he'd grow up to be?

In relation to waking up tired, it simply depends on which phase of your cycle you are waking up at. As such, the "8 hour rule" is a rather large generalisation.

I can get by with 2 hours sleep for a few nights, I had about a week where I couldn't sleep at all and only got about 2 hours a night, I got by alright :)

Best is 8 hours, although I usually get by on 4-5 on Saturdays when I do 4 hours work from 9.30am->1.30pm (have to get up at 8.30, go to bed at 3-4am).

I have been known to sleep over 12 hours if nobody's in the house :p

Around 8 is goof for me. For the past week though I've been living off 1-2 hours every night. :(

Yea and what do you feel like?

Does your general life skills get screwed?

Like making food or something?

I feel alright, even if my eyes hurt :p

I'm still able to make food etc. just, I'm too lazy so I haven't really done much.

EDIT: I don't think I can do it any longer though, no way.

8-10 hours is good enough for me, but I have gone for up to 18 hours almost uninterrupted.

18 hours.

Longest Ive sleep for without getting up was 13 hours and that was becasue I had no sleep for 3 days solid (72 hours),

I could survive on a couple of hours sleep each night for a few days but I really need about 8 hours, be that 12-8am or 4-12am (although I rarely get that as my parents always wake me up at 8-9am asking stupid questions  ).

I am also a bad sleeper so it always takes me a few hours to fall asleep, which means when I went to school and when I get a job I subsisted on about 6 hours max on a weekday due to not being able to get to sleep before 2am. :(

Cheers m8

Ive been through the same cycle as you

Me and 2 mates did like 3-4 days and had about 1-2 hours sleep a night

Forgeeeeeeeeet that

lol i have JUST finished watching the machinist on dvd and this thread appears!! coincidence i think not!

for me if i go to sleep really late, pushing 4, i will wake up really late like 3pm and feel like poo. mostly because the whole day has gone.

if i sleep normal 11-12 and i can wake up at 12 and feel wicked or i can be woken up 8 or 9 and still feel excellent. the only thing is if i wake up 8-9 it takes a good shower and activity before i feel properly awake!
