Well since I have been going to the gym my sleep patterns have gone boobies up.

I just cannot settle down at night anymore. I come back from the gym at about 5pm and visually I look really tired and mentally I am really tired. I climb into bed at 11pm and at 1:30am I am still rolling around trying to sleep.

It's crazy because I am yawning my head off whilst in bed but my body will not settle. There is nothing on my mind that would prevent me from sleeping and I am turning into a right moody ***.

I'm looking at either pills that will settle me down or natural things I can do or take to try and sort this out. I do not watch TV, or eat and drink before bed so I'm not sure what is causing this.

I need 8 hours sleep to operate but the problem is, somedays I only get 4 and then others 6 and my sleep debt is creeping up on me fast.

Ta :)

My Suggestion would be to try and relax before going to bed, maybe a hot bath for example. Also it's worth while getting into a routine of going to bed and getting up at the same time, this usually works for most people.

Thanks. I have to get up at 8am every morning anyway. I'm starting to lose interest in lots of things now and my concentration span has gone :(

i had this problem in the evenings after ive come back from football or swimming. i dunno if its to do with the adrenaline levels or what but i find the best way to sleep is completely tire your self out with push ups or sits up, then get in the shower. that way you're out like a light when your head hits the pillow.

Do not drink anything with caffeine in after about 5pm. Also try getting up earlier say 6.00 am. for a few weeks and see how that helps.

First thing, if you can't sleep, get out of bed and don't climb back in until you're really tired. Don't read in bed, or eat in bed, or drink in bed. Make sure you keep your bed for sleeping and certain kinds of recreation.

There is a specific kind of solo recreation which helps sleep (I read up on that once after I got a telling off from an ex - and there's a hormone that gets released when you hit the high notes) - but be careful that doesn't turn into a requirement for sleep (nightmare if you crash at a friend's house!).

My advice would be to sit in front of something brainless on the telly, like the Shopping Channel, or read something which isn't very brain-intensive, like a catalogue or HELLO magazine ;) ....you can try the 'net, but the whole idea is to wind your brain down...

I also find imagining myself walking down an unfeasibly long circular staircase works when you're on the verge of drifting off.......

Your mileage may vary, of course....but good luck :)

And you cannot sleep correctly, classic symptoms of overtraining. Cut out all training for a week or two, then return and do less and build up slower in the future!

Also make sure your diet is good too.

I had the same problem last month. Assuming your diet is fine (no caffeine in the evenings etc) then don't bother with over the counter pills, go to your doctors. I was prescribed some sleeping pills for short term use, took them nightly for 2 weeks and my sleep patterns are now fine again. :)

Well yesterday I did not eat from 6pm up until 11pm. Reckon I got to sleep about 12am and then woke at 8am. I'm still really tired but it's better than one.

It's more I think to do with me not being able to get comfortable because I have awful nighmares on my back, so I sleep on my side. Sometimes it takes me ages to get comfortable.

Whats stopping me from getting addicted to short term pills? If I start thinking "i need these to sleep" then surely it will take me a long time to get over them?

dont use drugs as they do become addictive, its incredibly hard to stop.. a syou said ''i need these to sleep'' - i suffer from mild insomnia so im tired most of the time anyway, the only thing that makes me sleep (recently) is a constant noise, so i leave my PC on during the night... sounds odd but u know.

ive tried load sof things, even when i come back from clubbing absolutly knackered, i always seem to find somthing to do when i get home...

somtimes watching a film that you know off-by-heart... somtimes sends me to sleep.. mainly due to being bored!

i still dont sleep much even now though, a normal nights sleep i will get around 3-5 hours.. if i have a good night then ill get 6-7... somtimes i just simply dont...

just tug one off ;)

releases all those natural chemicals that will put you out like a light,

Think about it? How many times you got your rocks off then fell asleep before finishing off the missus :)

hmmm ... could work for some, but if i do it once ill only want more.. im like a kid in a sweet shop

Doctors used to prescribe pills such as Valium or Xanax until they realised they were incredibly habit forming. Nowadays you're likely to get Zopiclone or Zolpidem. They're short acting and non-addictive. If you really don't fancy this route then by all means there's lots of other suggestions you can try, but persaonly speaking this worked for me :)

I'll stop now as I don't want to turn this into a medical thread and get it locked!
