Sleeping Dogs

Yes its a superb game imo. If you love GTA type games you'll love this. Whack up the AA to Extreme and enjoy the visuals.

I don't think you can ever really balk at a fiver, but I want to disagree with LtMatt.

I love all the GTA games (excluding vanilla GTA4), but I think Sleeping Dogs is awful.

It's a quality game. Not as in depth as GTA, but the fight mechanics make up for it.
Would be nice to able to go on an insane run of carnage against the feds with rocket launchers etc like in GTA, but hey...

Currently on my second playthrough after leaving it for months after the first run and I'm loving it.

The storyline was good, as were the cut scenes and voice overs. I wish it was a bit longer though. I'm looking forward to a sequel.

Me and GTA never got along though, I found the missions in SD to be much more fun to actually play. Whereas GTA missions I felt were too heavily scripted to be inside an open world. Another thing SD did extremely right is mission checkpoints.

Sleeping Dogs has it's problems too though, the sat nav routinely gets me lost, guns... I mean what is up with guns in this game, either don't have them or implement them right.

Wei and his chums are way better characters than the ridiculous GTA characters though, there's some story twists along the way that really had me.

Yeah, the graphics are lovely, the voice acting is quality (especially when Wei is ****ed at Raymond) and the story is good - if a little too short.
I'm actually trying to do most of the side missions before advancing the story too far this time.

GTA does have more to do in the (larger) game world IMO and there's always the All weapons/max ammo, let's go on a rampage of destruction thing :D

Don't get me wrong. I got bored and gave up GTA4 long before I even got near to completing it, despite all that stuff.
If it had a combat system like SD though...

Definitely the map and world are bigger and better in GTA, to me GTA and SD are different games. SD is the game I want to play through the story and experience the game. GTA is the game where I mess about online or in a sandbox, I have spent about 200 hours on GTA, maybe only 1 or 2 in story.

Yeah the fighting feels, sounds and looks great. I'm on my third playthrough. Getting all the collectables, doing all the camera's etc. Good fun.

Salty crab is hilarious.

Just trying to play sleeping dogs for once. Just finished tutorial type stuff and can go in the city now.

Popped on a bike and went for a drive and my normal fps of 55-60 went all the way down to 16fps.

WTF...

Any help appreciated. Specs in sig. 314.22 drivers and really dont wana move to the other new ones if thats what ppl suggest.

I run maxed but aa on high and no motion blur.

Edit - Noticed its better at night than day for the fps drop. Night seems fine it was just daytime it was dropping from 60 to 16. Oh btw any way to alter the deadzone or sensativity of when driving cos using a 360 pad slow average cars are fine but bikes and fast cars just spin on a dime kinda steering.

The only issue with Sleeping Dogs is the fact that it had may as well be linear and level based. Fair enough GTA IV wasn't much better but the lack of side content in Sleeping Dogs is pretty shocking, waste of time making it a sandbox game.

Is anyone having vram memory leaks with this game?

I fancied having a bash on it earlier and on start it just goes crazy, peak memory usage around 2.9Gb and that's before even hitting the menu...

Card is GTX 660 3Gb, drivers are 320.49, game is all up to date on steam, and it's the only game that seems to be misbehaving at the moment, I've just installed the beta steam update and it's still not playing ball, I last played the game a few weeks back, same set-up without problems :S

Any ideas?

Just finished the main story on this over the weekend - played on the HTPC (Q6600/6950) with a 360 pad. Graphics look amazing, the fighting mechanics are great (gun play less so, but thankfully you don't really need guns until the final couple of hours of the story)
