Slender, is it really THAT scary?

scary games are usually scary because of the sound, try using headphones on a loud volume late at night, preferably with no one else in the house.

No would be my answer, it's only really scary once.

After that it becomes relatively dull as a result of nothing new happening, the game only has one trick.

Very true, but it embraces the purest form of horror in an interactive way. "This is why we cover our eyes and yet peek through our fingers."

It's short and sweet, and is more horror than any of the garbage that's been thrown about for the last few years. I think it's a nice demonstration that horror can be implemented well into an interactive medium that doesn't include firearms.

Edit. Obviously Amnesia is similar, but I think it's dissimilar enough at the core to make Slender notable.

I've watched videos of it and it didn't look that scary, haven't bothered to play it myself basically due to the fact it looks boring to play. I found the story of Slenderman a lot scarier than the game looks to be honest and as a character, he's terrifying.

It's not that scary, but it's scarier than most games out there. They've taken to heart the message that a monster is scarier the less you see of it, so that's good.
