SLI and PCIE slot bandwidth question

Hi,

So my board has 2 x PCIE slots and I want to make use of both of them.

I got 2 matching nvidia cards, but my question is :

1 PCIE slot is 16x and one is 4x, will the 4 x slot limit the throughput of the 2nd card too much to make it worth it?

i think you will find it will from memory x16/8x there was not much of a difference but x4 i think there will be.

The difference between 16x and 4x is quite a bit.

Doesn't SLI require x8 as a minimum on second slot fOr certification purposes?

In crossfire you lose around 2-5% or a few fps so its not actually much of a problem.

If you still have the Abit IP35 Pro then it doesn't support SLI.

Can i put a second GPU in anyway and use it as a separate card for data crunching?

You could yes, however if it is powerful it'll be throttled by bandwidth. Although if your planning on using it for physx the results will be negligible
