Hi guys need some advice I like the look of the new gigabyte g1 970's and was wondering if there's any benchmarks yet for them in Sli I'm getting a 4k monitor for around Christmas plus my new build. How would they compare to 2 290's have around 600 to spend thanks?

They lose a few % to 295X @4k

But all that volcanic lava heat; unless you get really cold up there in the highlands.

What heat? My 295X2 with stock fan and overclock, barely looks at 70C mark under LOAD (Crysis 3) for 2+ hours, while the noise is 36db. (regardless if idle or full load).

Is more quiet than single GTX780 who shouts at 55db when gets under load, while idling at 45db.

No air cooled card under load can beat the 295X2 overall package.

Just because your card/system is efficient at expelling heat from the case doesn't mean it didn't generate it in the first place :p

Not that I'm suggesting it's a poor card - I almost went for the deal last week...

I've not kept up on it so it might be a non-issue now but at launch most of the recent crop of 4K panels (AOC and Asus especially) didn't play too nice with 290 cards which would be worth checking if you planned to go that route. I believe the Samsung 4K was less picky about that.

CF290X's are the way forward, running them on my 4K monitor myself, everything maxed averaging 80-100fps in all today titles, BF4 never drops below 60FPS, you can get a pair for £600 or go 295X if your limited for case cooling its within a couple of FPS of CF290x's, both will out run SLI 970's as stated in all reviews.

Which part of "all reviews" have you seen the 290X outrunning a 970?

Well I say all, I spent around an hour reading them Friday as I had my money ready to make a switch from my setup, but as it was a slight downgrade I decided to stick with what I had althought the temps and power saving was attractive, its all about FPS at the end of the day though.

That's fair enough as in terms of pure fps these cards are more of a sidegrade when you already have a high performer like a 290/290X.

Too early to say. Price cuts looming, AMD event on 25th, 8GB variants incoming.

The 970 was not made for 4K though. If you can wait, perhaps the Ti or Titan II will be the first real 4K card.

Yea I'm still undecided want as much vram as possible for future proofing 8gb 970 sounds gd but Amd will bring out something better no doubt.
The power consumption appeals to me though and they overclock well as had Amd cards all my life and want something different got a EVGA G2 850 so 2 in SLI is no problem.
Going to prob watercool them in future say 6 months down line for my haf 932 mod/build.
