Hey,

I am just wondering what would be a decent SLI motherboard, i would like 16x, 16x to get the most performance, I got a GTX 260 atm but i intend to upgrade when games become more advance and i need more power. I know the 780i's are decent but im looking for somthing with just 2 PCI slots and somthing cheaper.

Many Thanks

Which CPU do you have?

If its S775 then youre limited to 650i, 680i, 750i, 780i and 790i. None of which are very brilliant. 790i is about the best but i think it needs DDR3. The 650i, and 750i can only do 8x8 in SLI

Im not sure if any 1156 boards can do 16x16 in SLI, i think there all 8x8

1366 boards are good for SLI but expensive

I got a Core 2 Duo E6300 which i intend to OC, so do you rekon i shoud invest in a Nvidia mobo or go with a p45 and just OC and stick with 1 graphics card but i do want to be future proof a bit so i think sli would be nice for later but what do you think?

Well if you want to SLI then it has to be an nvidia board. If it was me tho id get a decent P35/P45 board and stuck to the one GTX260. A single GTX260 will be ok even up to 1920x1200

Thanks but what Nvidia board... I need to know what one do you think would go nice with a gtx 260 and decent OC'ing.

Well there only really the 780i thats worth considering. If you havent got a board yet id really consider a P35/P45 board.

The only LGA775 nForce boards worth bothering with now IMO aren't that easy to get hold of:

EVGA 750i F.T.W. (has x16 x16 on the models with the NF200 chip) - my reccomendation
Gigabyte n650i SLI DS4 - getting quite old now and 45nm support a bit hit and miss and only 8x PCI-e 1.1 when in SLI mode but very stable and overclocks dualcores like crazy.

Everything else has stability issues or worse problems - theres the odd 780i and 790i board thats ok but they are usually expensive and generally troublesome.

So is that the only board? and any ideas where I could find it?

Theres some goodish 780 boards but you'd have to do a good bit of research - often rev1 of the board will be bad but rev 2 quite good or even the other way around, etc.
