Hey all,

Just been given my brother's old setup of 2 palit 770gtx 4gb as he has upgraded. Currently I've got a single 770gtx 2gb.

My mobo can do sli x2 but runs the second card at a lower rate as it's a low spec. What I'm after is being able to run games like Rome 2, F1 2014 and GTA5 at full graphics.
Currently the graphic memory on the 2gb card prevents higher settings so some things are turned down to get the highest settings overall rather than max.

Frame rates are fine with just 1 card and run 90-100+ on the hardest of games, just without full settings.
Resolution is only 1920x1080 with 1 24" screen.

Is there any gains to be had from sli or would just 1 4gb card be enough of an upgrade?

Is it worth running sli when the second card runs at a lower speed? Does this not run both cards at the lower speed?

I found 670 SLI (with 2GB cards) was plenty for me at 2560x1440 for GTA5, but did feel a little restricted at times just by the VRAM. with a pair of 4GB cards I think the only things you may have trouble with are games which don't support SLI. it was for this reason that I sidegraded from 670SLI to a single 780ti, for ARK: survival evolved, as it was pretty much all I was playing at the time.

I've since dropped back to 1920x1080, and also discovered that there are user profiles out there to run ARK in SLI :-/ so a bit of a waste for me.

to reiterate, I think 4GB 770 SLI will be plenty, although thinking about it, it might be a bit much for your PSU, in which case a 2nd hand 970 would be a better buy

You can't do SLI. Gigabytes (probably the same for most manufacturers) H77 boards (not all) can only do Crossfire. SLI needs a minimum of 8x/8x pci-e slots. If yours has a pair of slots then it's 16x/4x.

^^ as above, just stick one of the 4gb cards in and sell the others, or sell them all for a better card. Maybe a 970?

Thanks, didn't know that.
Just read the mobo manual and it is 1x16 and 1x4. So no good.

Right best just stick one of them in then for the extra vram.

Oh well, thank you for the info. I learnt something today.
