SLI option not showing up. I thought Nvidia drivers 'just worked'

Don't suppose this could be the problem?

As you can see, in Nvidia Control Panel (an older one) there is no report of what motherboard is there...

It's the same in the new NCP as well.

Had to re upload the screenshot, as the address included what is deemed a 'sweary' and therefore blocked the address from working...

Ah, thought I was getting somewhere.

I have found that I can switch outputs between the two GPUs and the usage will also switch - which again shows that they'll work individually, but not together.

Have also found that the top DVI out on my older GPU is all fuzzy...

Do you have a second monitor (or 2 inputs on your current one) so you can have something connected to both GPUs? really shouldn't matter for SLI detection but wouldn't be the first time I've seen a GPU refuse to work unless something (anything) was plugged into it.

I wish they'd just give that up - take a leaf out of AMD's book. It seems to only cause more harm than profit for them.

Surely they'd get more sales too - many people with AMD motherboards use only AMD cards due to crap Nvidia chipsets being the only way to get SLI.

I'll go and nick my brother's monitor.

Yeah seems silly to me, they'd ship dozens of extra GPUs... but typical nVidia cutting off their nose to spite their face.

They are trying to protect their Intellectual Property (IP) and there motherboard/chipset business, hence why they do it.

x48 sli is fantastic though, so for me I love the hacks, cos I sure as hell wouldn't by an nForce board over an intel board at this present moment.

Back to the OP's problem however... I'd be looking at registry hacks now to enable SLI.

EDIT: Are you definately using the manufactur's latest chipset drivers for the motherboard?

Yes, there's only Intel's chipset drivers, which I've got the latest of (they mainly concentrate on storage and I/O).

At a loss to explain it then. Hope someone else can help you! (and me with my spelling of manufacturer!) lol.

Haven't got that as an option unfortunately.

In fact, nothing relating to PCI-E in the BIOS. I'm going to disable hyperthreading. You never know!

Edit: No, obviously...

Oh, and I tried plugging a second monitor into the second GPU's display. It worked and I got to select the multiple displays config, but no SLI option, and when running a game (both monitors at same res) I got no option for a 2-monitor resolution.

Could it be somehow down to the fact that you're using a Xeon? presumably your motherboard hasn't been certified for use with Xeons as they're a server class chip.

EDIT: maybe NVidia expect owners of Xeons to buy their Quadro workstation cards?
