Evening all,

I've got a quick query about SLI that I'm unsure of.

I'm a bit behind with the times but I'm trying to run two GTX 660s (OC edition) in SLI, however when installing the second card and linking them up I get a performance drop rather than a performance increase and I'm just wondering whether its this type of card or my system in general?

I've done a little research on my motherboard and it seems that once a second card is inserted the PCI slots automatically drop down to x8 rather than x16.

Rocking some classic components;

ASRock Z68 Extreme4, i5 [email protected], 8GB Ram, 1000wPSU

Some games don't respond to SLI, dropping down to x8 won't make that sort of difference. Which games are having an issue? Have you enabled SLI for the particular game in Nvidia control panel and turned it on.

I've tried PUBG (which is a waste really as its not optimised anyway), Euro Truck/American Truck Simulator and Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor.

Yeah, I enabled it in the control panel and I tried altering the PhysX processor too from auto but it didn't seem to make much difference.
 
The easy answer is sell them and spend the cash on a GTX 670, 760, 960 or better. :P

Chance are they aren't all sli enabled games, Shadow of Mordor is the only one that should get a boost.

That's something I'm definitely tempted in doing :p But I have no idea who would buy a 660 these days.
 
Sli is hit and miss, even with games it is supported on. New patches or driver updates can cripple it. Next week i'll be ditching my 980ti sli for 1080ti :)
