SLI question

Thanks all! I had the same mobo years ago and the north bridge failed after 6 weeks! lol.

Just changed the chip around like said, booted in to windows, installed drivers SLI working - how easy was that thanks so much all, my brother is really happy now :)

The NB Fan ( Thats the FAN and not the NB itself ) failed me too... Its an odd sized bugger too which piddled me off, and wanting to use a pair of GFX cards to SLI on this board has proven an awkward setup.

The only solution I couldfind was a Zalman Fanless cooler...

The Gigabyte 6600GT Cards luckily did fit, but both top and bottom card were touching the 6600GT
Same with the 7600GT - Although in both cases, this was also down to me using the Zlaman 700Coolers on the Cards.

The 7800GTX cards again, could fit, but they were now not just touching the Zalman NB cooler but rather pressing down fairly hard on it... I had to move to a different Mobo with those.

Why is it near to impossible to get a good SLI setup with a non standard NB cooler on a decent Mobo?

the zlman was what my mate used on his as well, the thing tha tmost people did though was phone up asus and they would send you a new fan (new design that didnt break) as a free replacement.

Well, I did contact Asus and they did say they would replace it as long as I sent off the original.

The thing is, that when it came for me to do that, I could not find the original fan???

I have now found it, but, Im also using a Zalman anyway so its kind of not worth worrying about?

I dont know though cos the 6600GTs are in a Ca19-SLI Board and while they are a Zalman and an IceQ Cooler, they are fine in there.
The 7600GTs are in the A8N-SLI and again, with the Zalman NB cooler and the both cards having Zalman VGA Coolers, it needs the 2 PCI slot gap to fit them in, so they are snug.
And the Foxconn only has the 1 PCI slot gap, however the 7800GTX Cards are running stock ( Thin ) cooling and therefore they too are snug.

If I was to go back to the A8N with the 7800GTX Cards, this would also mean that I will need to get different coolers for the 7600GTs to put them into the Foxconn.

I dont like the foxconn though... At first it could not see 4GB and now its seeing 3.9GB and Windows sees 3.7 ( and Im on 64Bit ) - The Latest BIOS has helped, but not fully.
