Hello Guys,

I've currently got Nvidia Geforce GTX 470 in SLI I want to move down to a single card as the noise can get rather loud when at full load the SLI does play everything at max detail and res I game at 1920/1080, I dont want to lose performance tho I just want to lose the noise what card would I be looking at? I would like to stick with Nvidia.

Also to help fund the NEW card I would be looking to sell the current 470's how much would you say I could get for each?

Not sure if it will help but my PC spec is as below:

I5 2500K OC to 4.5
Geforce GTX470 SLI
8Gig Crucial Ballistix Tactical Tracer
850W XFX
Silverstone Raven 3 RV03B
MSI P67A-GD65
Kuhler 920

32" Samsung TV acting as monitor.

Many Thanks

Put a Price Check thread in MM and people will happily let you know how much they cost. Dont want you to get in trouble for posting outside MM about how much £ you can get.

You won't get a true single card from Nvidia to match 470 sli, even a 580 will be slower. Only the 590 would be faster and buying one now would be silly.

Id suggest using a custom fan profile, and use the frame rate limiter in msi afterburner. Got mine limited to 59 fps. Helps keep both temps and noise down.

I've now got Afterburner V2.1.0 I cannot seem to find the Framerate Limiter can you please let me know where it's hidden?

Many Thanks

I just wanted to say many thanks to all that helped me, Afterburner is a great bit of kit along with the Frame Limiter, I clocked it at 60fps and it knocked 10C off my temps on the cards thus giving me scilence from the Stock Fans.

Once again many thanks

Go for it mate, theyre pretty cheap now. As long as you have good airflow and a decent psu it'll be a nice little boost.

Just need to make sure I cant get another in due to current one having Accelero Xtreme Plus on :o

I will post a new thread, dont want to hijack OP's :D

Yeah I've gone with GTX470 SLI purely to drive my 120Hz panel as best as I can in a few multiplayer FPS games :D for most other games even one mildly overclocked GTX470 is more than fast enough.

Airflow is a big issue with these cards tho - if your case has adequate/semi thought out airflow they don't get overly hot or noisey but if your airflow isn't upto scratch they get very warm and very noisey.

The only single card out currently that can really compare on performance is the AMD 7970 - thats a pretty expensive upgrade tho for what is essentially for the most part a sideways movement on performance unless your VRAM limited.

well if u want nvidia best way to get 580 3 gig , but it will be much slower then 470 in sli , 590 is hot and loud and im not sure if they fixed the issue they blow up sometimes.

other then that 7970 with healthy overclock be a side grade from 470 sli

maybe invest in different 3rd party coolers or spot cooler or something ? better case with better air flow ?

I will see what Nvidia brings out, if and when they do. Current 470 never goes over 50c. Although I got Coolermaster 850W PSU, so should be ok. Unless a cheap 470 comes on MM :D
