slide/negative scanner

Results like georges' and whitecrook's are fine for me. maybe flatbed is all i need. I'll keep watching some dedicated ones on ebay, but if i find the price going too high i might go for the epson v200. thanks for the help again everybody. Also if anybody else has any slides or negatives they've scanned with a flatbed I would be very appreciative if they could post them for me to look at:)

Mine wasn't scanned on a flatbed, if that's what you were thinking.... This is part of a set that I scanned in when I got the scanner. I printed one off and compared it to the print back from the lab. My scan+print had MORE detail than the print from the lab.

I scanned hundreds of film since 2005 or so. A good flatbed, a bit of discipline and patience will give you image that will blow away any DSLR. Especialy if you start using medium and large format film, where you get resolution of (easily) 25 megapixels from 6x6 film, up to 100 megapixels for a 4x5 E6 slide.

Buserror you seem to be saying what i want to hear regarding flatbeds. is it possible to get results like that with a flatbed under arounddd 70 pounds, if so could you recommend me something. thanks.
ps. good pictures

Yes you can, try to find a second hand Epson 3200, 4490 or 4990 flatbeds; the last generations of Epson flstbeds are known to be pretty good, especially for the price.

I'm reasonably sure you could find a 4490 for £50. a 4990 might be a bit more expensive but would certainly be under £100.

Here's another then. I only used the scanner once as I put a slide film through with tesco so they would process it as normal, thus cross processing cheaply. However, they thought they'd messed it up, so didn't bother scanning, meaning I had to.

As the light generally wasn't good I was using the widest aperture on my lens, which is really quite soft, so there's not much detail.

this image is pretty underexposed, but probably the best for detail. I think the scanner could extract more from a sharper neg.

hi well regarding the v200 well all i can say is get one, i have had great results from it, it also scans a strip of 5 negs at a time and does do the slides 4 at a time i think, best scanner i have ever had and got no complaints from customers so far.
oh also just checked it scans upto 12800 dpi, thats ridiculous not tried that res yet and wouldnt like to see the file size afterwards.

after seeing the results from the 4990, and with BusError's recomendations ive been looking around for either the 3200, 4490 or 4990. can't find anything at the moment on ebay and new ones are all around £120. lots of v200's on ebay though. Nalla, do you have any examples of the v200 that you could show? and does anyone else have any experience with the v200?
