Right lads, the time has come where I need some advice.

I have a small amount of money that I wish to spend on my machine. My options are;

1) Get a 2nd hand/cheapish 5870 to go with my existing one and go down the crossfire route.

2) Sell my 5870 and get a 5890 or 480.

What would you do ?

should be fine providing you don't overclock it too much, same really goes for the cpu seeing as an i7 can easily draw 200w

I'm in the same position as you Damien and my choice is going to be another 5870 for crossfire because it's something new to install and i've wanted to try crossfire for years now. I also have the HX620 and having done plenty of reading around these and other forums figure it 'might' be enough for 2x 5870s, but i might pick up a second hand HX850 when one next becomes available in the MM.

One last question.

Would it be best to get a card of the same make ?

At the moment I am running an MSI card, would it be best to get the same or will any one do just a good a job ?

It doesnt matter what make it is, but best to get one with the same clock+mem speeds.

Once you have it set up please post back to let me know if it all works fine with ur HX620, thanks :)

Creed, I do believe a new PSU is needed due to the lack of PCI-E outputs on the HX620.

I've just gone and bought a new PSU to do the job.

the card comes with 4pin to 6pin adaptors so that isnt really the issue. £195?! u lucky boy :cool:

Which PSU did u go for?

Hmm, I guess but after reading a few other forums via a quick Google search, some people were doubting the ability of the HX620 to deliver the goods with conversion harnesses etc installed. I know in theory it should work fine but I'm massively paranoid and want to do it right the first time round !

Yes, I won it for £195, a bargain if I may say so myself. Were you watching the same one ?

I went for this PSU, as advised by the friendly chaps in General Hardware;
