Having been a proud owner of a 7700K for only the last 4 weeks and paying nearly £360 for it on OCUK i am slightly peeved to see it listed for £308 today.

Also, if id have waited, i could have bought the 8700K for the same price.....

I guess i should have done some more research but i feel a bit pi%$ed off tbh.

I am aware that this tech moves on really quick but i had absolutely no knowledge of the 8th Gen i7's at all and looking at the spec i would have waited.

Don't get me wrong, not unhappy with my 7700K just kicking myself i guess.........

Rant over

When pointed out to someone else earlier THIS week, that bit pointless to buy a pre-binned 7700K @ exuberant price, now the 8700K comes out, even 8Pack trolled me.....
Today ofc is "Thursday"...... (hope you know what I mean)

Also the new 7700K ongoing price retail tonight is 274 not 308

That's the price you pay for not researching properly I'm afraid, the 8 series is well known to have been launching around now.

Yeah i get that, not expecting the violins to be played to be honest, just kicking myself a bit.

Means "is another day" and should ignore everything happened/said yesterday.

Forgotten already..................Moving on

Relax. You ain't losing anything. You have a great system there. OC the 7700K to 5Ghz, it can take it.

But yes is rotten losing £100 just in a single week.

Yeah, not unhappy with my rig at all, runs like a dream, i now just have to convince myself i DO NOT need an 8700K.......that's the tough part......

Well you could find 7700K somewhere cheaper 2 weeks ago if you had done research.

I find it strange you had no knowledge of 8th Gen i7 or Coffee Lake when you should able to see my thread "Intel to launch 6 core Coffee Lake-S CPUs & Z370 chipset 5 October 2017" I created back in April in near top of page 1 CPU thread section everyday.

How could you not know the 8700k was imminent?

Don't worry about it though, because when pre-order buyers finally get their 8700k's in December they'll be kicking themselves because Ryzen 2 will be launching soon after :p:p:p:p

There is always something better just a few weeks away be it cpu, m/board or gfx. The difference is negligible really a few frames here or there.

You are also on a more established platform so wont be bug finding and flashing new bios or drivers every few months.

Not even future proofing either as I gather this will be the highest spec CPU this socket will see before the next gen

I think you'll both see from my original post that i mention i should have done some more research. I'm not here for a kicking. Do not swear-schizo happens and tbh i'll learn from this to be more mindful when building my next rig.

After I saw the reviews of Ryzen I got my 7700K (5.1GHz binned and delidded) for £275 to replace my 6700K, so to avoid taking a hit selling my Z170 system. It turns out to be a better choice than selling Z170 for Ryzen and selling Ryzen for the 8700K.

Honestly try and look at it from a different angle. The 7700k is still one of the strongest cpu's for gaming. What resolution and refresh rate do you play at? If it's 60hz then the additional performance the 8700k offers is irrelevant, all the modern cpus are good enough for 60fps.

Secondly you can get some satisfaction going for the greater z390 which is due quite soon. Judging by Intels reaction I can almost confidently say they'll rush the release yet again if the Ryzen refresh ends up being decent...

Honestly I think z270 to z390 is going to be better than z270 to z370.

Always do research. Tech does move this quickly but only when there's competition. :)

It's safe to say that we have all been in that position at some point.
As others have said, the 7700k isn't suddenly going to be obsolete just because the 8xxx series has been released.

Always happens with tech - getting a good deal/on the right side of prices changes, etc. happens far less frequently.

This is why these days I stick some money away and only upgrade, etc. when stuff goes on great deals unless I'm absolutely forced to upgrade.
