Slightly annoyed

The Ryzen 1700 has been holding around 250-260 for the last month so you must have known the 7700K was terrible value. Even at £300 Its still overpriced.

As gutting as something like this is I wouldn't worry too much. If all you're doing is gaming, by the time you really need 6 cores the 8700k is going to be obsolete anyway. Another more power efficient 6 core will be along in a year or so, and you'll be back to thinking maybe it's time to upgrade/get rid of this power hog.

It's nice to have the latest and greatest for running a few benchmarks, but then outside of synthetic testing having 4/6/8/10/12/14/16/18/22 cores makes very little difference to the vast majority of us.

Its not great on the OCD, I totally get it but don't cave in, what you have is great :)

Yeah an i7k is a hell of a desktop chip. The only things tempting me to upgrade is the 18 core Intel and 8-16 core Ryzens but for regular "desktop/gaming" it's much of a muchness.

How could you not know the 8700k was imminent?

Don't worry about it though, because when pre-order buyers finally get their 8700k's in December they'll be kicking themselves because Ryzen 2 will be launching soon after :p:p:p:p
Ryzen 2 not comming out till end of 2018. What we will get is ryzen 1 refresh on 12nm i just hope those clock at 4.4..... And im getting one.

Yeah an 8 core Ryzen for around £300 with another 10-15% performance would be impossible to turn down.

There is always something better just a few weeks away be it cpu, m/board or gfx. The difference is negligible really a few frames here or there.
I would disagree, 2017 is where we are finally moving on from quad cores in almost a decade. Buying one right now was madness imo

Cheers guys. I am more than happy with the 7700K, just had a moment last night but i'm way over it. I am a gamer and have no real use for more cores tbh, my current setup has blown me away having gone to the 7700K from an i5 4460, there is no comparison.

I'm also a guitarist so having an amp that goes all the way to 11 would be nice but 10 is way loud enough and good enough for me.

Exactly mate. :)

Yeah 16 cores at 4.5Ghz would be a spicey meatball.

With 4Ghz+ ram and 8 Samsung 960 PRO for ramdisk......

Why not ask them about tradeback or similar!
I'm happy intel have a response to ryzen and despite sharp drops in cpu prices as a recent buyer for work and play I can't see the negative!

Oh yeah now we're talking. Although I'd probably just fill the NAS with 2Tb SSDs buy a pair of SFP+ cards and direct connect over FC at 40Gb/s while laughing like a mad man.

40GB/s is faster than DDR4 3200 single rank, if correct.

That's exactly why I said sod it after seeing the lack of 8700k stock and grabbed a 1600x today, I went with the lesser 6 core instead of an 8 core because I'll replace it in the first half of 2018 with something from the Ryzen refresh range. And possibly something from the range after that in 2019, In comparison, as we all know the Coffeelake platform is a dead end.

Having been a proud owner of a 7700K for only the last 4 weeks and paying nearly £360 for it on OCUK i am slightly peeved to see it listed for £308 today.

Also, if id have waited, i could have bought the 8700K for the same price.....

I guess i should have done some more research but i feel a bit pi%$ed off tbh.

I am aware that this tech moves on really quick but i had absolutely no knowledge of the 8th Gen i7's at all and looking at the spec i would have waited.

Don't get me wrong, not unhappy with my 7700K just kicking myself i guess.........

Rant over
Hey I got my 7700k on day one and I'm still slightly peeved that the new chip won't drop into a z270 motherboard!

I'd be even more annoyed if I'd just shelled out for a 7700K, that for 'only' £170, the i5-8400 offers gaming performance much the same as the 7700K does!
