hi all, im looking for a 'slim' hdd for the second bay in my media centre case. it will only fit a slim one, im not sure of the correct terminology but they are not as deep as the bigger drives, I have an ide one but need 2 get a sata version but struggling to find anything?

thanks!

I haven't seen a 3.5" HDD that's less than an inch thick for years. Are you sure it's not a laptop drive (2.5") that you've got?

hi mate, yeah im sure its a 3.5'' drive. just measured the one i have and its 0.75'' deep.

the drive im talking about is only just over a year old so im hoping to find a sata one?

From memory, older Maxtor drives were the thinner ones..

Can only remember seeing 40/80 Gb ones mind

I think some of the single platter Seagate 7200.10 drives were the thin ones your talking about. Dont know of anything recent.

you are probably right there bledd the drive ive got is a maxtor.

i will have a look for the seagate ones cheers mate do you know if they are sata?

its a shame because i cant fit a standard size drive in the second drive bay on the inwin i got from the promotion on here a while back

Maybe a laptop driove would be a better propect if you need more than a few Gb. As said, it was older drives that had them.

I had a 40Gb slim Maxtor iirc.

good man cheers! a 500gb would be ample for my application

I will have a look for the sizes of them unless you know the thickness?

thanks for doing that mate

0.75inch is the same as ive measured on the ide maxtor that i have so i will be on the lookout for a seagate now :)
