I've discovered that many formal shirts are made to be HUGE! Bought some lovely Austin Reed shirts - all far too large a cut.

So what quality shirts are slim fitted?

Charles Tyrwhitt slim fit shirts fit well with a shorter sleeve. But are pricey.
Tom English - but they are a bit cheap and the material is thin.

Any others

don't know what you consider a 'quality' shirt, but next stock quite a large range of formal slimmer fitted shirts.

Hawes & Curtis (also of Jermyn St.) do slim fit shirts. Had a sale on lately any men's shirt for £25.

Unfortunately my ironing skillz are obviously not up to scratch for this 100% cotton business and the thing seems to absorb creases out of the shirts of anyone I pass.

For less formal I have a couple of slim fit River Island shirts, which are probably the best I have in terms of fit, but they don't have much variety. A lot of places have slim fit if you ask inside. Moss etc stock a few brands that do, unfortunately it can be difficult to find Slim Fit 14 1/2" :(

Depends how much you want to spend. I find Zara man reasonable and the shirts are fitted and of good quality.

Ted Baker shirts are a nice slim fit. John Lewis usually have them at the lowest prices. Almost as good as the CT and Pinks shirts i've bought in the past but they fit :D

Frogskin

Next and believe it or not River Island cotton slim fit shirts fit me perfectly. I also got a nice light cotton one in Zara, it's a Spanish label in it though not the normal Zara one :)

But yeah normal shirts have grown belly fat sized to match all the fatblokes in this country :D

I tend to buy a good quality shirt from a place like M&S say, and from there I take it straight to the tailors to have it fitted to my body. The tailor charges about £15, while M&S charge about £5-£20.

My problem is that years of exercise have given me a slim waist and thick shoulders. If I go for a shirt that fits my shoulders/neck, then the waist is HUGE. If I go for a shirt that fits my waist, then my shoulders cant fit into the shirt. T-shirts: exactly the same problem.

The problem, as Jonny69 said, is that most blokes in this country are fat with beer bellies. The mass market shirt sellers have picked up on this and decided to sell the shirts that fit the majority (ie. fat men). If you have a beer belly and are fat all over (thick neck/shoulders and big waist), then most shirts will fit. If you are thin all over, then again, you are in luck as you can get away with a small shirt (thin waist and thin neck/shoulders). If however, you have big shoulders and a thin waist (like me) then you are in trouble.

Its strange because the media puts so much pressure on women to stay in shape and make clothes accordingly (most clothes in the high st are geared towards the slimmer woman; some ranges dont even include bigger sizes for women), I dont understand why they cant do the same for men.

I got some awesome shirts in Primark for £6. Yes you may think they are ***** but they are a really good fit, not like other shirts that are massive and not a decent fit.

TM Lewin is a personal fave, although pricey. Hawes and Curtis and Thomas Pink also do some really good quality fitted shirts although the latter can be very expensive for a custom fitted shirt (around £120)

H&M are doing an awesome line of fitted shirts at min for a paltry £9.99.

The material is not best but the fit is very nice for a fifty quid shirt let alone a tenner

get made to measure ones, I get mine from Bangkok, super quality ( on a par with a 80 quid shirt ) and less than 20 quid each

The problem here is that we would have to travel overseas just to get measured up. I looked at their website and they dont seem to measure in the UK.

However, you can have a shirt tailor made in the UK. Prices will be dependent on where you live and which tailor you goto, but I think around the £80 mark would be doable in London. Obviously if you goto Saville Row it will be a lot more, but you dont really need to goto that length.

they will do shirts from your own measurements, they tell you which ones to take

I also get suits from them but you do need to me measured ( and several fittings ) for those, once they have made you one though they will do more by mail order
