Has anyone else had a slippery slope in the tech world?

It started off with me wanting to go ultrawide. So I settled on buying an ElectriQ monitor for like £350. I then searched around, Alienware had a sale and some stackable NHS discount which ended up with me getting the monitor of my dreams at the time for like £650 or maybe a bit more (can't remember exact prices now).

Anyway, after buying that, I saw a monitor called the Samsung CRG9 which looked mindblowing. So I bought that. I then felt I needed sound to couple it, so I bought 2x speakers (active). I sold the AW. The Samsung CRG9 got dead pixels, had 3 replacements, then I gave up and thought I'd try something else; so I tried an LG C9 55'' as a monitor.

In the mean time, I realised the audio from my Edifier speakers wasn't good enough so I bought a DAC, Amp and AKG 712s.

I realised the AKG 712s weren't good enough and that I preferred my subwoofer and speaker setup downstairs but I really liked the OLED 55''...

So I ended up returning the 55'' OLED and buying a 77'' OLED. Speakers wise,I appreciated my KEfs so much, I bought a new set of speakers. New new set of speakers invigorated my love for sound.. and now I'm reinvesting....

So... 12 months later.. My mind is now on a new subwoofer, a hoverboss, a power amplifier and a new projector.

it all started with a bargain £350 Electric Q monitor and ended with a big dent in my pocket.

Has anyone else had a similar slippery slope? Is this just an addiction to new gear?

I would be on a similar slippery slope if I could afford it, but comparatively speaking the best I can hope for is some wet mud in my gently inclined garden.

I shall be "splashing" out this Christmas on the 48 inch (if it's ever in stock) and PS5 though. Possibly new Ryzen too. And potentially the 3080 with 20GB of VRAM.

Well, my garden can be rather treacherous when wet, after all.

Sort of as I can't quite decide on the format I want to settle on. Went from 40" UHD (VA) to 35" 2560 x 1080 (VA) to 34" 3440 x 1440 (IPS) and tried a cheap 32" 2560 x 1440 (VA) monitor I have in the bedroom for YT viewing. That format seemed to suit the games I'm playing at the mo better. So bought a proper 32" 165 MHz 2560 x 1440 (VA) monitor in the Prime sales which arrives Friday.

I think I know what I want but it doesn't quite exists yet. 38" 3840 x 1600 QHD+ BUT must be VA panel and that's what's missing as the current monitors in that format are IPS. The IPS glow on the 34" Acer Predator is finally starting to bug me now I know VA panels are much better for response these days.

The 48" LG CX OLED was in the running for about a week but just couldn't see it working with my desk setup :)

Eh? This reads like you work with a 77" TV as a monitor.

I can't visualise how this is workable.

It's very easy to head down this road! I tend to work in reverse, have a budget and stick quite close to it. I won't upgrade until there is a fairly healthy improvement to be had. Budget constrained right now but it doesn't stop me planning ;)

You only live once and they are enjoyable to you, so naturally you're looking for the best experience. Rather than it being a slippery slope I'd say it's the perfectly natural hunt for perfection.
