Anyone ever given this bash? Considering giving it a try soon what with all the reduced spirit deals being touted due to Christmas being around the corner. Figured it's a good time to get some decently distilled gin on the cheap.

Anyone know where to purchase sloe berries from?

A mate of mine did some last year, don't buy them go and pick them!

Find a decent hedgerow and they are in abundance!

The one my mate did last year turned into a kind of syrup over time and was massively potent!

I still can't remember the one night when we first tasted it but I remember it being lovely!

Not really easy for me to come by them growing naturally. Don't drive, etc. No idea where any hedgerows are without a small mission out of town. Would be easier all around just to purchase some.

might be a little late now, but you can pick sloe berries wild - iirc they are one of the last to bear fruit at the end of the year.
Add pricked berries to bottle with gin and sugar - leave for some weeks/months.
ok, you need the gin beforehand, but it tastes pretty good.
Dunno about where to guy 'em from though - sorry.

every year there is a comp for this whos is best ext between all the farmers, its put in chocolate and all sorts

always a night people want to remember but just end up in a propper state

My boss swears by this stuff. I keep meaning/forgetting to try making a bottle up.

I make it every year, from the hawthorn so you need to walk round in spring and look for the white blossom, it's too late for sloes this year but a quick and easy one is, bottle of whisky strawberries and sugar, tastes really nice.

Sloe gin is really nice but it's too easy to drink ny the pint

My mum always makes Sloe Gin and gets the odd bottle out for Christmas, usually have some when I go back to visit and its pretty lethal! :)

Probably not much help to you but she grows the berries in the garden for it I think.

Will be hard to get hold of sloes as they are not really grown commerically. Gordon's do sell an ok-ish sloe gin though.

You can make some raspberry vodka easily as they can be bought all year round now. Though much better with uk grown than imported.

•300g of raspberries
•350g of white granulated sugar
•1.5 litres (or more) of medium quality vodka (don’t be tempted to go for the cheapest or thr best)

1.Wash raspberries and discard any bruised/bad fruit. Place raspberries in either a large 2 litre Kilner/Le Parfait jar or divide the raspberries between 2 or 3 (70 cl) saved vodka bottles. If you have to squeeze fat raspberries through the neck it is fine.
2.Using a funnel, add the sugar (divide the amounts if using several bottles) and top up with vodka to 2-3cm from the top.
3.Shake every day until the sugar is dissolved and then store in a cool, dark place until you can resist it no longer (leave for at least three months, we usually let it mature for a year).
