Ive got 2 500gb aaks drives,1 is my boot drive and the other is for storage.

Just ran hd tune on both drives and my boot drive comes back with a access time of 20.4ms whilst the storage drive comes back with 14.0ms.

I would have thought they would have both been more or less the same?

Just had the drives out and ran the benchmarks in another pc and they came back the same so do you think the one with the slower access time is faulty?

Hmm, to be honest, apart from the slightly high average access time, both drives seem perfectly fine. No errors at all. Interesting that the 14ms drive has almost 10x the number of powered up hours though? Are they the same age and have you been using the one more than the other or what?

Anyway there's not really anything to point a finger at that's RMA worthy, at this point, IMO. Your choice therefore, whether to try for an RMA or not.

The drive thats ok i bought that 2 weeks ago its the drive i bought this week thats the slow one.

Anyways, sent a email to WD a few hours ago and just had a reply saying the drive is defective and needs to be replaced so RMA it is.

Thanks for the help.
