Slow BF3 Map Load times since changing graphics card

Mine is slow I have a gtx 460, once loaded works a dream and is fairly quick changing maps once your on the server. Not times the load times but I woudl definetly say 30-60 seconds.

I always thought it was my hd as last year my hd died and I made do with an hd ripped out of an old external storage I had lying around. At some point I will get round to replacing it.

I had really slow load times in the beta, but they do seem much better in release. Ive got a 2nd monitor with a few hardware monitors running, I can see during map load there is very little actually 'loading' - disk access is almost non-existant, but what does appear to happen is my CPU is working away. I can only assume its performing calculations on textures etc

I also notice that during the game, my RAM usage is around 5GB - I dont have much else open, so this at least means having more than 4GB is a good thing!

Mine is slow as well. Random for me though. Sometimes It will load and I'll be in before the 30 seconds countdown and have to stand around at spawn, other times it takes so long the game has already started.

SSD and more RAM drastically improve loading times

maps load within seconds for me with SSD

Don't think the load times are all down to storage, there is only so much to load and I know my setup could fill the RAM 50 times over before the levels load for me sometimes!

I have a SSD http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HD-071-OC&groupid=701&catid=2104&subcat=1427 and 6GB memory with I920 CPU runing on 2@gtx280 SLI, load times are very fast :) I look at the mini map and only see me in my team on it first:)

Sometimes a server is just slow but even without an SSD, upgrading from 4GB to 8GB has made a huge difference for me. I don't need 8 but since it needs to work in dual channel then 8 is what I get!

OP can you clarify what you mean by "load time"? Is it the time from launching from Battlelog, or from switching one map to another after a round is over?

Both. When I join a server, the game will start instantly (almost), but then loading the map will take a long time. Then, when the map changes, it also takes a long time to load.

I have to say, it takes about the same time as you quoted in your OP (30 to 60 seconds) for my maps to load.

The only exception to this is once I have rotated through a number of maps, and then even on exiting the game and joining a different server, load times are nearly instant.

My set-up is GTX480 SLI.

Map loading is very ghey on this game. SSD is the way forward.
I can't help but think that the maps are compressed? If so does anyone think there's a way of unpcking them to speed things up?

Could just be because they're massive and highly detailed?

I must also say, if the same map is played on for the second time in a row(on the same server), loading will be near-instant. I will see if any working fixes/driver updates come out, if not I'll probably upgrade my RAM to 8GB and buy an SSD.

Usually first in the map once im in a server.. sometimes im sat there for a while before any else joins

Got a i7 @ 4.6, 8 GB Ram, 580s in SLI and 256gb SSD

So in fairness it should be like that, but im just posting to show that a Nvidia setup is running fine (touch wood)

However i do have the odd crash when trying to load into a server.. so its not all roses.

From all the replies, it sounds like this is just a caching issue which SSDs can completely mitigate. I for one am happy to stick with my current setup - this issue could be resolved very easily if DICE just made the end of round summary a lot shorter or optional.

Yeah. What would be nice is if it would start to load the next map in the 40, wasted seconds it takes for it to show me the awards I've earnt.
