need help bad here
ok my old computer was
pentium d805 2660 oc 3200
asrock 775-dual vista
6800gs
team xtreem 6400 mem
maxtor diamondmax 10 160g ide
a no name 450w psu
Two days ago i bought these upgrades
bfg 8800gts 320mb
asus p5n-e sli
tagan 480w psu
maxtor diamondm 20 160g sata2 (only sata2 drive shop had/)

It went bad from start i kept gettin blue screens while trying to install windows, i used some bios settings i found on a post here on the boards and it fixed it, but then the hard drive started giving errors on windows install saying that could'nt copy files and my computer would'nt restart the screen would just freeze
I did dskchk in repair and it said disc had one or more unrecoverble errors, im not sure if this was caused by all the crashes, the hard drive and been on way out for awhile the disc inside sounded like it was getting stuck somtimes and had to bang it to get it to work again, so i went down shop down road and got the sata2 drive which installed windows fine even though i had to restart computer with button each time windows asked, the screen and mouse pointer jus freezed each time on a plain blue screen(not the blue crash screen)

but now my computer is really slow loading windows and loading anything else in windows like installing games can take quite awhile now, and also in games loading times take nearly twice as long as old setup, also starting a couple of programs at same time on desktop can cause a 1-2min freeze mouse can still move but pointer locked on busy graphic.
The wierd thing is once im in game its fine rainbow 6vegas i maxed out settings cept for aa at 1280*1024 and game ran ok as did most of my other games cept vanguard that seems worse even with new gfx card, its more jolty when moving and although my processor aint overclocked like on old setup i doubt that would make a difference to just that game
I have installed all the motherboard drivers the bios rev is 0202 i saw there was a newer bios out but only showed 2 new fixes that did'nt look like they would help also ive never flashed a bios before. I got 97.92 drivers for card.

i have tried reinstalling windows and the only difference now is i got a pci device that keeps trying to install, i think it might have something to do with raid? as my motherboard cd drivers did'nt choose to install that this time for some reason.I fixed the restarts by puting defaults back on in bios, one of the options jus did'nt like my computer i guess ,i just upped the mem voltage to 2.0 im sure thats what was causing the blue screens when installing windows.
i just cant figure out what is causing it thought my computer was gonna b twice as fast loading stuff as had ide before

can anyone please help

Have you tried testing your memory with Memtest? The symptoms you describe (other than the clunking disk) could indicate a problem with your memory, so I'd get it checked out first. Also, you say you've changed some BIOS settings, what were they and did you know what they were doing? Try resetting the BIOS to defaults just to eliminate that possibility.

im not sure how to run mem test do i need a floppy drive for that? as i have not got one installed, i ran orthos blend test for about 3hours with no errors if that is as good

the bios settings were just
memory and nb voltage
set cpu to thermal control [auto]
turned spread spectrum options off
turned jmicron sata controller off

i did set bios to defaults but i put mem voltage to 2.0 again, also my computer has not crashed once in windows or games and i have played some games for awhile on it , wouldnt a memory problem cause crashes?

just ran memtest for an hour it passed once after about 40mins then got 50% through next pass without any errors and i stoped it , i really dont think it is memory cos it worked fine in last setup for a few months, ive also tried it with both sticks on their own and it still the same

one thing i did notice is it wouldnt show my chipset in the mem test screen showed processor and otherstuff, should that show up?

just flashed bios to 0401 did'nt help at all, after restart it blue screened twice at windows welcome screen so i upped the mem voltage to 2.0 and it worked again.

anyone else got any ideas?

i know maxtor aint good but this hard drive is only 2 days old

i gonna do a fresh install of windows on another hard drive i got its only ide but should be able to see if wondows as slow, really didnt wanna go through windows install again/
