Just copying 21GB of data now between my C: drive and my E: drive. The C is a 150GB Raptor and the E is a 320GB SATA.

At the moment it says it's doing 18MB/s - surely it should be going much faster than this - even USB2 is 400MB/s transfer rate.

The PC is doing nothing else apart from this copy (and this post!).

Have you installed all drivers for your PC e.g. motherboard and SATA controller? It should be going a lot faster than that, I'd be looking for nearer triple that speed normally. Have you checked if both drives are functioning normally using HDTach or similar? The USB2 part is a bit of a red herring though, that is more of a burst speed than a sustained speed. :)

If you put a SATAII HDD into a caddy (like an Icy Box) and connect it via USB2, and do an HDTach bench on it, you will get a figure of between 30-35MB/s. :)

If you're lucky :) my experience has been that the throughput is likely to be lower.

USB 2 transfers at 400 Megabits (Mb) per sec, not Megabytes (MB) per sec, so roughly translates to 60 MB per secs.
