This is bugging me, work lappy is a dell latitude d820, 2 ghz intel processor, 1 gig of ram etc, newish machine, running xp and office 03.

im currently working on a couple of excel spreadsheets about 10mb each and it grinds to a halt when switching from one to another or when clicking links in one?

works fine on the guys beside me 4 year old machine and on my home laptop which is a similar spec to the work one.

any settings that could be causing this?

All I can think of at the moment is that the other users have stored the data in the worksheet and as such the forumulae aren't hunting round for a value. There's an option in tools, options called store external link values or something. Try ticking that. Also make sure your VLOOKUPS etc aren't looking down the whole column but only the relevant cells.

Turn off the auto-calculation mate and let them use manual re-calculate :)

I developed a spreadhseet for work and can see it going this way in about 2 years time when scalability becomes a problem :)

but even if they were, it runs fine on lesser machines?

Yeah I know I read that bit but it will still speed it up. Are the other machines on the same network at work i.e. able to see the same linked sheets?

Bad idea as in a sheet with lots of calculations it can **** things up and make it really slow when you eventually do decide to allow it to calculate references.
